Want to build an immersion heater - Any plumbers?
« on: March 24, 2014, 10:18:58 PM »
The past few years I have borrowed an immersion heater from a gemach.  It has always worked out, b'H, but I always felt pressured to have to work within my time slot.

I am a big DIYer and know I can manufacture one, but I am having difficulty putting together a parts list.
A google search for immersion heater (and other variations) results in many options.

Anyone with hvac/plumbing background that can give me some advice?

Thanks

I spoke to an electrician who directed me to a plumber.  This is really more of a plumbing item.  If you google, you'll see most of the results take you to plumbing supplies website.

eta - The plumber I spoke with said he would help me, but I have not been able to reach him...hence, my post here.

There are two different gemachs.  One is as you described.  The other uses metal piping.

Dishwashers have water proof immersion heaters. Buy a replacement part etc...

Be careful though when mixing water and DIY electric appliances.

Wonder if that would be strong enough, It'll probably take hours to heat up.

I have some experience with electrical, and I have an electrician who said he'll help with the wiring, if needed.

How would you wire something like this up?
I would find out before attaching a wire to each end, you can blow the thing up.
