Suggestion: Have someone else have the password (or half and half with a spouse) and do the following:
Lock installing apps + remove browser + add apps you need (possible rules: no games, no sports, no entertainment, etc.).
[Occasionally an app will have a built in browser/or need to access a certain website - just go back in to settings (with password) and add that website].
There is time restrictions and more features too.

K9 web protection is dead.
https://support.symantec.com/en_US/K9WebProtection.html

It isn't clear what will happen to users who already have K9 installed if they don't uninstall it.

Is there anything similar to webchaver (ie just sends the history log) that doesn't use a VPN?
I currently use webchaver but the VPN is really slowing down my phone

I am very happy with truple https://truple.io/

It takes a screenshot every few minutes and you can blur it for privacy. It works on Android and Windows. I'm not in any way affiliated with it but I'll be happy to answer any questions.

Sounds like the answer I'm looking for.

Does it slow down the phone at all?

Not in my experience. I can't tell any difference in speed since installing it. I do have a fairly new phone though. They have a free trial, so no risk trying it out I suppose...

...still unfortunately lots of things that slip by (especially images - their image filter is a total joke. if it is turned on you won't find a clean picture of an apple (i guess they think apples are inappropriate:) ) but you will still see other images that you don't want to see and with it off it won't get in your way but essentially you don't have a filter...

... I prefer NetFree...

...NetFree takes a unique approach to the image problem...

sites in NetFree are also checked manually. after it is checked and determined to be kosher, it no longer has to be checked again for any user. they also have a text robot to remove offensive language and a customized filter for shopping sites.

i have been using it since its founding around 5 years ago and i still recommend it to all. it is non profit and is just here to help the klal and to make a 100% solution available to all.

Disclaimer: i do not work for NetFree nor have i received any benefit from them (other than their great product - at full cost like any costumer) i do volunteer for NetFree and i do not and have not received any benefit from NetFree.

please reply with any questions and i will try to address IYH.
Sorry for my language but this post stinks!

Besides the point that you are berating other good solutions, although according to you they are not as good. Such a long post promoting a service coming from a first-time poster, and then claiming that you are just a happy user is somewhat ridiculous.

Besides the point that you do not address, that from what I can see this doesn't have any real deep-system client that prevents using the internet completely unfiltered. In which case - I'm not sure it is the case, but judging from the guides they have - it is a total joke for anyone (which is everyone) that has admin access to the PC or has a tiny bit of tech knowledge!

The Wiki is not mine... everyone can edit away as they see fit  ;)

I did some editing, removing K9, adding Techloq, and updated some info and organized a bit.

The discontinuance of K9 is going up be a major loss for the frum community. It is still widely used.

I'm still unclear whether it will stop working for those that already have it installed.

It will technically work for the time being, but no updates means no new classifications. Also no new licenses (for fresh installs with the executable.)

But - and that's the worst of them money hungry company... - they released an uninstall tool (no password need I guess, otherwise you don't need a tool) so it is basically extremely easy to remove.

Is there anything similar to k9?
Unfortunately not. Nor in simplicity and ease of use, neither in being completely free.
