Is there a need for McAfee if I have GenTech. I've had them both for the last couple of years because I got McAfee for free. But my computer has been slow. Should I buy McAfee for this year?

McAfee is an antivirus and GenTech an internet filter, why would one be a replacement for the other?

(I'm not saying McAfee is THE antivirus to use, or that some free antivirus is not enough. But GenTech is not the thing that replaces McAfee...)

I've seen things blocked on gentech for category: piracy that's why I thought that once they are filtering they filter out  malware as well. But if it doesn't work that way let me know

Since they categorize all sites they'll block some "websites" that are rated for malware or similar things. But it would not do anything in regard to malicious things that are already somehow on the computer (let's say from a USB or from an email etc.)

Does any filter besides Gentech work on XP? Gentech is causing daily bsod and I need to change.

(Yes, I have XP. It's still my favorite OS.)

Change OS that is....

Sure the BSOD is Gentech's issue? Which antivirus are you using (if you do at all...)?

Maybe ask Techloq.

Me thinks it's time to get a new OS.
I'm not who you think I am.

I'm surprised anything still works on XP
If it's not free shipping it's not worth it.

You should get off Windows XP as fast as you can. I sure hope you don't use it in your business.

Home PC.  I'm looking for basic filtering.
openDNS and cleanbrowsing don't seem to stop access to adult sites.
What should I use?

I haven't used it much but there's qustodio free version. I don't know how easy it is to bypass. Most probably fairly easy.
