I feel like I missed the part where you explain why this is a scam. If you don't think it's worth spending money on the filter, if you are happy with k9 then continue to use it. No one is forcing you to use vcf filter. How is this a scam?

Whether or not livigent is a fast filter or slows you down, this definitely has more power than k9. At this time K9 cannot filter youtube or facebook. Its also harder to remove as its installed by third party and you don't have the option to send password to your email address.
I honestly can't believe you are saying these things. There is a simple remedy which has been mentioned over and over. When you put your email address in K9 instillation you give them someone else Email address. Are you saying someone should pay a monthly fee so that you should keep their password for them. If anyone can't find a friend to help them with this they can use my email address. This is so insane.

I gotta side with DH on this.  There are nebach tons of not computer savvy people who need a filter but don't know how to it properly.  We are talking about the type of people bringing DH their computer to install k9 because that is too difficult for them.  It makes sense that they need a customizable cloud.
Having said that 6 million does sound like a lot!   Do you really think that it is that easily circumvented?

@dave it blocks facebook and similar, doesn't filter it! Please stop with the agenda, why can't it be possible that there's a stricter filter than K9 out there. I don't force anyone to use a specific filter, why would you force everyone to use k9? It really doesn't make sense.
and seriously you keep avoioding the second question, makes you look like there's a reason for it..

Because they represent themselves as an organization out to help the public. So you are OK with them selling a product without any benefits over a free one? Great. I'm not and I call that a scam.

I'm not understanding, if they offer better protection + more customization options,  why is it a scam?

They made filtering events without any vcf filter. They created a website and a comprehensive filter guide. They went ahead and created a filter that they felt would be more beneficial to some ppl and those that went it - choose it over k9. They didn't have any used car salesman offering vcf over k9, they had a bunch of volunteer techs helping ppl decide what works fr them. Some ppl chose K9 and some VCF! Are you telling these ppl they must use k9? Because I sure didn't tell them they must use VCF? Between the two of us - you seem to be the one forcing ppl into a specific filter

Because he is unable to give one reason how its better protection or what more customization there is. He mentioned two things that I previously showed in links to be untrue.
Have you ever gone into a store and tried to buy one item that they advertise and instead the guy convinces you to buy a more expensive item telling you its a better product, than you come back home and do research and see you were told lies. Its called Bait and Switch. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bait-and-switch

The event was made to HELP people find the best filter for them. Yet throughout this discussion you have yet to say why vcf filter is beneficial for anybody?! The two reasons you gave were outright lies and as someone who is supposed to be an expert I'm really surprised that you would say it.

What kind of filtering are you looking for in facebook? How exactly does the cloud filter facebook?

So you're say that k9 filters facebook content?
Youtube filter is still in experimental stage, still allows things thru many times as they say themselves....

They are also implementing content image filtering.. I know this slows down the system but many ppl are ok with that, and they have that option!

I was at the Landaus event. Not one person on my side of the tent was told to put in the vcf filter. This was from 7-11pm. Granted this may be because i was near the mobile people, but even the discs containing info on the vcf filter wasn't moving. Nobody was pushed to take that filter.

cloud filtering is just the name of the filter... Its really based very much on livigent filter, and as most BH employees can tell you - this is a very strict filter. Some ppl want this! Why is that so hard to understand!!

Yes it is that easy to circumvent. There is no proof that it isnt other than there word. As someone that knows networking it's very simple to bypass a DNS entry. remember, just like in K9 its your computer that is filtering itself. All one needs to do is tell the computer to bypass the cloud limitation and its over. It's just as simple as bypassing K9.

And yet YWN reports that 1500 were sold. Can you explain this?
