Please elaborate

The only way a typical router "knows" what a computer is doing is by handling its DNS queries, and simply not responding with to the DNS for blocked domains.

This method is flawed since a device doesn't need to use the routers DNS in the first place, and many devices/software come with alternative DNS set in them to be used. Nowadays even more so when a lot of software/devices are set to use DoH etc. for DNS which makes it all invisible to the router.

This is besides the point that the router based blocking aren't generally well updated category lists, it's more of a domain blacklist things.

Right, I'm aware that what's in most routers doesn't cut it for the average frum Jew looking for protection, I meant what does this very expensive box do different. As a layman reading the product page it doesn't immediately jump out at me.

I don't know anything about this specific device, but a firewall/content filter device can act as a proxy of sort and deep inspect all actual traffic.

You haven't restarted for quite a while it seems...
Switch to Gentech?
They don't want to allow as a policy

1) true, it's a server.

Policy? Instituted by whom? I sign up for a filter to filter content not essential programs.

They have an issue with WSL? Figure out a way to add a Linux based proxy or whitelist upon request just like any website.

Wishful thinking.
But they say that they couldn't invest into something that would make WSL filterable as it's used by only a small subset of users, and they can't have a PC labeled as "filtered by techloq" when it's technically not filtered

exactly I'll either have a Device Fully bypassed with Techloq on it or I'll have a device without Techloq on it.

My router supposedly intercepts all traffic that doesn't flow through its DNS. How do I test if that's actually true?

Change the DNS on a device to something else, try with and without DoH (and maybe also with DoH via something like https://one.one.one.one/), and go to something (a HTTPS site) that is supposed to be blocked by the router.

DNAT rule to force all DNS queries through the router's own DNS?

With DoH that's not a thing, as it's all HTTPS traffic and not port 53 DNS traffic.

Though maybe rules like that + blocking rules for the DoH providers hosts... (but it gets complicated since there can be many many hosts - there are lists for it but still... - and also that this can also possibly be circumvented by connecting to the DoH provider by IP and not by host name).

Using Gentech on a mac for years now. It has always seemed to slow down the internet, but it's getting to the point that it's difficult to get work done. See screenshot of two devices connected to the same wifi - phone is using iphone os native screen time as filter. Mac is using Gentech (which is obviously routing traffic through their servers). I have spoken to tech support a number of times and they have been able to seemingly make things smoother for individual websites, but a) I have to call them for each site, and b) it only helps to a certain degree. Are there other options out there, or is there something different we could be doing to eliminate the issue?
Same issue with my Mac told that mb smart should be faster. They don't offer any customer service and have much more limited options.

Blocked by my router, although I'm sure I can change DNS on my device directly to a provider that uses DoH.

Wait a second, why don't they encourage router based filters and allow WSL?

I never understood why filters are on device and not on the network.

Best to have both, as some devices are portable

Tell them to contact me... Of course they should not allow video download sites since that will allow download of all videos. But there is a way to do it right without any risk involved (by allowing an application to download the player and direct link only when the source link of the video is not blocked.)

I did find that the UDL Helper (https://uniloader.pro/en/helper), which is available for all browser (but a bit more complicated with Chrome, so you can rather use it with Microsoft Edge etc.), does seem to work fine with Techloq.

I paid the subscription for youtube Ezra Bodansky. My intention to be able to
download with UDL and then transfer on USB to send it off to someone who doesn't
have internet.  This time however, downloading doesn't work. Could it be that
all Bodansky's clips are not for downloading ?
Hope you can help.
