my younger brother, mid teen.
Did he give details on his master plan? or was he being a big shot and making an unsubstantiated claim?

Now that you got me going I just tried one of the "easy ways" to disable k9 that I found on google. Uninstalled bckd.sys etc. rebooted supposed to work like "magic"... except it doesn't. I am pretty computer literate so if there is a relatively easy way to do it I can figure it out. Problem is that with K9 installed I can't fully research. Perhaps later I will use someone elses computer to look for instructions for the sake of understanding the topic better.... but then again I am not sure I want to know how....

Hmmm....

Let's go back to asking your kid brother to give a little more color to his statement.

SP-IF - Android/iphone

Anyone have an android or iphone and willing to try a filter? I have avoided smart phones but I do have friends who [sort of] need it.

Would like to test this software. I watched their videos a while back and was really impressed. Will be reading more about their products but if we have anyone who can test that would be really appreciated.

I will pay for one month service for someone who will give a serious report.

Thanks.

p.s. I happen to be ashamed to have to turn to the church for help in inyanim of kedusha....but if they are indeed handling it best (*if*) then I imagine it is the ratzon Hashem - anyone disagree?

BTW: Our Yishmaelisha cousins have hacked the leading site on this topic.

http://www.guardyoureyes.org/

I actually am encouraged by this.  They don't hack mostlymusic.com.

Know what I mean?

p.s. The video is amazing: R' Twerski's letter made me cry....

Dunno how long. Randomly checked today - first tried a deep link and landed on some arabic site showing off that they hacked the site. Then I went to GYE homepage and they acknowledged hack and put up a temporary page. It had an embedded video for watching while they fixed issue.

This was it: http://api.dmcloud.net/player/embed/4ee88e9ff325e106fc0030a4/4eef1f6494a6f647380011ca?auth=1639685609-0-63kksjiy-7866f2a1252193c6997f6870999a37ea&force_asset_name=mp4_h264_aac

So an update on OpenDNS: I set my routers DNS addresses to OpenDNS preconfigured for family filter. Tried accessing a blocked domain, got a blocked page. Pinged a blocked domain, got the IP of the OpenDNS blocked page instead. Used the actual IP of the blocked domain, that worked and I got access to the site. Changed the DNS addresses of the wireless card on my laptop from dynamic to static and used Google's DNS addresses (8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4), that also worked and now I was able to access blocked sites by domain name.

Could it be because I have a netgear router, and installed the Netgear openDNS sofware?

90%
I use it in an office setting where a- no one would be able to figure that out and b- no one is trying to get around it. It's more for phishing and viruses, than kashrus

A) How do they get around it?
B) What are the solutions you suggest?

A) How do they get around it?

They just switch the DNS on the client.

That's what I mean. Putting a different IP address for the DNS server(s) in the client's network settings.

that's not what I mean, you could bypass DNS altogether by directly putting in IP

Really? You'd have to know the IP addresses for all the blocked sites you want to visit.

They just switch the DNS on the client.
As mentioned above, a full-featured router can be set to only allow the DNS server you choose . Another option is setting up a Windows account without administrator priveleges, which will not allow users to change the DNS settings.
