I think that flaw is in any filter which is not its own browser, aside from Livigent and Netspark.
Correct
That's why I switched to netspark.

Except that it is annoying, and is not necessarily very useful if you're trying to filter for yourself, depending on how much of a deterrent you want/need.

Good question.

I just got it on Friday, I don't notice it slowing me down.

I know it'll be annoying :) that's why I pushed it off 'til now. But it's not for me

The thing is that once I log in, I want the 'default' level of protection. Will I still have it?

Thanks!

No, you're not "logging in", you're allowing each site to go through as you need it.

What you probably want is two separate filters, one to block everything, and one set at your desired filter level.

That makes sense. Is there another filter that plays nicely with k9?

Open DNS. It is easy to get through/around, but I use it as a second line of defense, and might serve your purpose as well.

I haven't tried any combination of K9/Norton/Qustodio/Mobicip, so I don't know if those will play nicely together.

One issue could be connecting to an optimum hotspot. If your phone is registered it shouldn't be a problem, but it seems that Netspark won't let you load the signin page to manually login.

What if you use the Optimum registration app?

Not sure, but if that would work you would only need to do it once because the app registers the device.

Which level would that take care of? Blocking everything, or filtering out what I don't want?

You could do either, but you were talking about using K9 to block everything, so I was thinking for you to use OpenDNS for the filtering level.

You could then set K9 in supervisor mode for a set amount of time, and still not accidentally end up where you don't want to because of OpenDNS.

K9 is more secure than OpenDNS, so use it for whichever type of filtering you're using for (I assume) your kids.

Would it work to use it the other way around? (I have custom whitelists/blacklists set up in k9 that I'd rather not redo if I don't have to).

Thanks!

I don't remember if OpenDNS has a way of temporarily allowing a site, so you might have to unblock and reblock each time.

Try it. If I'm wrong and there is, great. If not, you should be able to manually copy your whitelist and blacklist to OpenDNS on a one time basis.
