Suggestion: Have someone else have the password (or half and half with a spouse) and do the following:
Lock installing apps + remove browser + add apps you need (possible rules: no games, no sports, no entertainment, etc.).
[Occasionally an app will have a built in browser/or need to access a certain website - just go back in to settings (with password) and add that website].
There is time restrictions and more features too.

If it is not configured properly going to those sites bring up a page saying that it wasn't filtered

I use 888.com
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

I signed up for webchaver. K9 is not compatible with Webchaver. Any free tools to put in times limit on internet activity?

If there is something with remote access that can be waived by an administrator that would be really great!?

I am sometimes accused of overthinking things. I am still mulling over whether that accusation has merit.

Some routers have that feature built in. Can't hurt to check to see if you have it.

Don't use a router.

I found a massive whole in k9 filter on windows 8 rendering it useless. If anyone thinks they can help i would be immensely appreciative. I don't want to spell it out because I don't want to be " nichshol" anyone. Please PM me if you think you can help. Thank you

I don't know what kinda hole you're talking about, but take into account that k9 has to constantly keep updating itself with new codes and URLs etc. that google, twitter, FB etc. use. That being said, the term hole may not be accurate if trying to render the entire thing useless, as this hole has not necessarily been there in the past, and is likely temporary till k9 updates.

Is there a way to modify android (rooted) dns to be used on all connections?
Basically i want to change the DNS but without an app needing to be installed forever

Maybe. I use an app called rom toolbox pro, it does everything - highly recommended.

Does anyone use netspark and does it cause network problems for example I'll try signing in to an app (audible)and it'll say that I don't have a network connection but if I try using chrome it'll work (truing to get to the source of the prob just I don't know if it's from the filter or just something else) thanks

Yeah, it's just Netspark needs to be configured for some apps to work properly, set a exception for audible to be on a lighter level and see if that helps... I find that lots of times it applies stronger rules to apps vs the website... For example I can't get images to load in Twitter app but on the website it works fine.

Anyone have good recommendations for hardware side (router) filters?

Already looked into OpenDNS. Any others?
