Lock installing apps + remove browser + add apps you need (possible rules: no games, no sports, no entertainment, etc.).
[Occasionally an app will have a built in browser/or need to access a certain website - just go back in to settings (with password) and add that website].
There is time restrictions and more features too.

But how does OpenDNS work? You set the DNS resolvers on your router? Then all that does is provide defaults to the clients. If the client overrides with its own resolver addresses then it wont ask OpenDNS to resolve the domain anymore... Can't see why it wouldn't get around it, but I will try it at home later.
Many advanced routers let you lock the DNS resolver.

How would that work? Maybe I am just confused but how would the router be able to "lock" the DNS resolvers and not let the client resolve the domain on its own??

Any DNS-based filtering is easily bypassed if you know the the website's IP address.

Very odd... How do you setup the OpenDNS blocking?

I'm pretty sure standard browsers lookup IPs as well. I did a standard router DNS setting.

Not sure what you mean by lookup an IP. What is it looking up?

Browser don't need to look up IPs because thats the servers address. It called OpenDNS (Domain Name System) for a reason. Domain names are tied to IP using DNS. Youtube might not work because Google uses round-robin DNS and they have redirects for content delivery.

"The Filter Net" is very good. You get to choose exactly which sites you want open and which sites you want closed. You can log on at any computer when you're not home and see if anyone is online and which sites they are on. You also get to see the history of exactly which sites were visited.

Okay. Dan just merged it. (Thanks Dan).

If you could just update it that would be great. At some point soon I would like to create a summary post of peoples experiences, reviews, ratings, etc. on each filter.

Gonna try something called PureSight - It's an Israeli company - could be wrong but I seem to remember that Phil Rosenthal recommended it as an up and coming filter...

http://www.puresight.com/

Will report back.

Okay. Back with my report...

In a nutshell: FAIL!

Some nice features but I always get the feeling that foreign companies lose key things in translation.

Main gripe is that they don't tell you why a site is blocked (at least not on the webpage itself - there may be a log somewhere). How the heck am I supposed to tweak it if I don't know why you blocked the site?

Also seemed to be getting some false positives on harmless sites.

I imagine if they polished their product it would work well and I am sure it suits the purposes of some but my vote is nay!

p.s. I feel that on every blocked page there should be buttons that say:  "login to allow this site" and "email request to administrator for this site" etc. - You gotta make it easy to adjust and work with ... people don't have patience for this nonsense. (at least I don't)

K9 can be disabled easily by young children, and apparently only works well for english.

Rimon provider dependent) is wow!

Apparently, something called "chavrusa", not sure how spelled, is very good.

I think you're talking about ChaverWeb which is a rebranded version of Covenant Eyes. Its very hard to disable but as mentioned earlier in this thread,  it embeds itself into the OS so it can cause problems with other programs trying to access the internet.

If somebody has admin access to PC it very easy to disable any filter/program (delete/disable service files.)
