The company that I work for has a Dept that watches what everyone looks at, this was his recommendation as it tracks it at the modem

I don't know what that translates to in technical terms, so I can't say how that differs (or doesn't) from K9.

Nothing negative (AFAIK), and a few positive reviews/recommendations for MSE on DDF. Perhaps it's not as good as a paid solution, but if you're looking for a free one, MSE is the way to go.

alright I switched over to MSE and have k9 running. Haven't noticed a lag, if anything it's prob running quicker than with kaspersky  :)

It probably is ... and thats why it wont be as good as a AV protection

We'll I have the same on one of my computers and so far am good :)

BTW having K9 alone should protect you from a lot of potential viruses, as pop up and "these" type of sites often have viruses

I hope you're being sarcastic.

I don't know what you mean by "those", but I'm convinced there are viruses embedded in some flash sites.

True

I'm not saying it'll be equivalent to an AV (I think on their site they say it a lil like a way to protect your computer from virues...)

Regard an AV slowing down computers... I don't find MSE to be very thorough, it doesnt remove evey crack on a flash drive I would plug in like Norton or Mcaffee would. I actually perfer it like that...
MSE is deff designed in a way to intergrate with windows and hence will run more efficient, but it prob is running less processes than a solid AV...

I know I've said it before, but I've used MSE for years now and think its great.

Look, no AV software will be perfect, but MSE + common sense should be enough to ward off 99% of all threats. (A lil "computer savvy" can raise to right near 100%.)

Anyone know if OpenDNS works well in Israel? I have read that it slows download speeds internationally and was wondering what it's like in Israel.

By who?

Why is it better than K9 (which is free)?

Whoa. iBoss is heads and shoulders better than k9. They are not even in the same league of filters. k9 is a simple software filter which has to be installed on every computer (and tablet) attached to the web,  and with enough dedication can probably be worked around. iBoss is a separate hardware filter installed on your network where you can only access your net connection through the filter. It is the single most effective filter available today.

Any filter has a work around.

I actually an a fan of K9

But in truth the best filtering is by having 2 filters, a actual filter installed on the device (e.g. K9) and a filter on the network (e.g. iBoss, OpenDNS)

There is virtually no work around that I can see in iBoss. Unless you can have physical access to the device and somehow can get into its ssystem and override.

2- Whydoyou need k9 if you have a filter on the network?

1- As you said there is a way around it. Also depends for who we are trying to use the filter for.

2- no filter is foolproof, and there could be sites that one filter wont pick up but a second would. I see that all the time by using 2 filers...
Besides what someone pointed out - that most wifi enabled devices could easily connect to a different unfiltered network.

I think we can assume it to be above most people's head to reprogram an entire system. Just an assumption tho, but it's way easier to find a hole in software filter.

Wont argue on that fact, just as the point of filters is to protect us, and not every filter is foolproof, there are stuff that get buy them.
iBoss is an option for a working environment, for a home I think you need more.
