Check out their quite easy and powerful content restrictions.
Suggestion: Have someone else have the password (or half and half with a spouse) and do the following:
Lock installing apps + remove browser + add apps you need (possible rules: no games, no sports, no entertainment, etc.).
[Occasionally an app will have a built in browser/or need to access a certain website - just go back in to settings (with password) and add that website].
There is time restrictions and more features too.
(May not be enough for teenagers - consult your own advisers - this solution sure beats doing nothing and there is no excuse)

You can use my DNS server. It blocks all social media sites (except Twitter for now) and some other bad sites.

DNS Servers:
DNS Server primary: 185.228.168.205
DNS Server secondary: 185.228.169.205

Think this may help out some people on this thread, so here goes nothing...

We at CompassML have noticed a lot of complaints about the annoyances that come along with installing filters on Android devices. We decided to challenge what a filter can do, as well as how secure and seamless of an experience we can provide. Using 1st party integration with Google's own management program, our software is installed at system level, enabling us to provide a secure experience while still keeping the phone fluid and smooth. Our approach includes an extensive app store, which will expand and change as needs arise. We filter WhatsApp, as well as many other apps at the DNS resolver level. We have been testing this software for over a year, and as we gear up for launch, we are looking for some beta testers to help us find any rough edges. If you would like to try out the future of filters, feel free to apply for the beta at https://www.compassml.app!

Did you try reinstalling the app?
Unless you don't mind, a system reset shouldn't be necessary
Clear play store cache

Im looking to get a smartphone
add about ten apps (email, chase, waze, jstream etc.)
then lock appstore
no browser.

Can anyone recommend a solution? I'd prefer a one time fee as opposed to a subscrition.

An iPhone - Apple restrictions.
I'm not who you think I am.

Thanks. Im looking for a TAG approved solution. I see there are about 10+ filtering companies but not all show pricing on website.. wondering if anyone had experience....
I'd think apps only no browser would be more popular

TAG can use apple restrictions if it is used in addition to an Internet block (which is free).
Try to contact them.

Use family link to block the browser and limit the google app,
Pin lock the app store with the parental controls in the play store app itself

Looking into getting a phone for my teenage daughter.

My earlier experience has been that iPhone seems more secure, and the ability to set restrictions and just whitelist websites or approve apps on request was a pretty good solution.

However my daughter's phone broke, and she now is asking for an Android phone, and suggesting I put Gentech on it, which lead me to looking into things a little deeper.

Is Gentech on an Android secure enough to not be able to circumvent by a teenager (interrupt the boot process or something like that)?

I now see that Gentech is also being offered for iPhones. Does anyone have experience. Any downsides?
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

I heard from a friend who had gentech put on pixel,
They told him it is easily removable if you know. On an iphone it's much more secure, and they offered to do installation for free if he switched to an iphone.
But, a samsung phone may be safer due to knox

Gentech is not allowing Google Flights to load for me. The page loads but I get an error message when searching flights. I spent a while OTP with a technician and he couldn't figure it out. Any ideas?

And there isn't a higher level tech?

When looking at the Network traffic in Inspect or in the Console you/they can't find something blocked/errored?
