Did anything change since the establishment of Ichud Hakehillos ?

Like tens of thousands of people putting filters on their computers and phones? ???

I would guess maybe 1/100th of what we have now.
But then again, you're looking to get excited again, so maybe I shouldn't tell you what you wanna hear.

They're opening offices all the time. Montreal. Mexico. 25 offices are now open, 25 more than two years ago.
Yes, one office is temporarily closed, and will be open again soon.

I said to a friend the other day that the problem with all the anti technology frumies is that although they mean well, they are always 5 years behind the times.

The only filter which cannot be disabled is one which is on the ISP level (although if you are desperate then you could probably get around that one too with a vpn, but that wold be far too difficlt for most people).

However, their protection will only remove the absolute shmutz, but it is absolutely impossible to kasher the internet i.e. outside world.

It is oh so easy easy to boot a computer via a usb stick and it is easy to plug a celular dongle (costing no more that a few pounds) into a computer.

The terrifying danger of all this focus on filters is that our community are drawn into a false sense of security thinking they are safe, when in fact, it only takes somebody with a little knowledge mere minutes to bypass most filters (and we know how quickly information is now available online).

The askonim driving the present mania are still stuck at the turn of this century. They still think the internet can be tamed!!

The sooner all communities join together to make an open community run ISP offering differening levels of filtering, the better.

However, in todays climate of I am even frummer than you and blue shirt wearers are shkotzim, we all know how (un)likely that is to happen.

Because the kosher phone mafia was so well run that now we want to create a kosher isp mafia?

I think the bottom line is that there will always be hundreds of workarounds if someone is looking for them.  It takes a combination of moach shalit al halev though anything that makes it tougher is a good thing.  But just like you can't block out the billboards on the street you'll never be able to block someone from doing something they're determined to do.

Nobody is trying to give a false sense of security. To quote Rabbi Reisman (can be heard on Kol Halashon) "We are not trying to make bad people, good. We are trying to keep good people, good." Someone looking for trouble will always find ways to do it.

You can always reboot your PC with a USB stick.

But it's easier to go to your local convenience store and by a magazine.

@davidinuk If you weren't misinformed, I would say your point is is pretty valid.

But:
A) The askonim aren't behind the times anymore. They know about all the vulnerabilities on all platforms. Finding fixes to those vulnerabilities is pretty difficult, while your average computer genius will be able to get through it all anyways.

B) Askonim never promoted the kosherness of internet with a filter. They say that without a filter internet is assur, with a filter, one can have a heter bedieved.

C) They would never kasher a smartphone for a teenager. If they believed in the kashrus of their filters, wouldn't they allow it?

D) As others have mentioned, filters are meant to keep kosher people kosher, not to kasher a sheretz.

Davidinu, They tried selling us VCF and Meshimer Filter based on Livigent that it will be impossible to bypass, we now know is as simple as using one command, we now also know that entire product line is a big failure.

What are you suggesting doing a ISP filter? We had one called JNET it was never a good filter, what's the problem with K9?

Let's stop talking what we should do, let's do what we know is good.‎
