love net nanny never tried k9 because of complaints I've heard.

Assuming your asking about android, definitely go with net nanny. You can download apps and have the admin approve them remotely. There's also filtering by category, white listing among many features, while k9 does none of those. And many phones, k9 barely manages to run without quitting instantly.

Just wanna note that the iOS 7 safari filtering is garbage unless you want whitelist only. It blocks tons of clean, normal websites, like ups, gilt, and tons of 100% clean websites. while leaving youtube, Facebook, twitter and others open.

The greatest safety feature Apple added (unintentionally) to iOS 7 is the Find My iPhone feature, which if set, disallows the user to restore the phone without putting in the password for the apple ID. The feature is meant to stop theft. But it works well for blocking too. Obviously, if you're blocking the phone for someone else, you would use your own ID.

K9 on phones is very limited. There is no customizing what categories or what sites to leave open and block. The features are far behind other companies. The apps they have sometimes do not run at all. I would guess that there is one guy working part time developing their mobile apps. Mobicip has categories, whitelisting, monitoring, and more features.  Costs $10/year for anything beyond preconfigured filtering. You can check out mobiflock too but I'm less familiar with it.

Upon further checking, mobiflock looks like a great choice, it has many great features for free. I would try it out first before plunking down $10 for mobicip.

Eta: I didn't realize it's a free 7 day trial. It costs $25/year.

 It's from 2 different companies.

I know someone that had his phone "rooted" and the browser removed and only certain approved apps installed.
But from what I have heard it's much easier to filter an iPhone then android or the new Nokia Window phone

Lmaskono, I've stated plenty of times (including yesterday) that Net Nanny is the best android filter to get.

"Filtering" an iPhone is definitely harder than android, and AFAIK, filters don't exist for Windows mobile. But there are different needs for different folks, and therefore sometimes different suggestions, so I would suggest you call TAG if your considering which phone to get.

Filtering iphone is much easier and it's possible but android you can always be smarter than the filter

I read through all 655 posts I did see all arguments or suggestions but I believe we got the situation wrong.

No one with a urge to pornography will stop by just using a filter no matter how strong the filter is or how non-technical he is, he will get around, a filter is designed and made for the purpose to help a person prevent from getting access not acceptable to him, while for some it's pornography while for others it social media everyone to their level, with a variety of products he should be able to choice a solution custom tailored to him.

K9, Meshimer, CovenantEyes, Vocatech, NetNanny and others they are all best choices for the right person depending what you're looking to accomplish, no enforcement or agendas will accomplish anything, the education and willingness from each individual person looking to be protected from the Internet using a variety of products available today should work.

Not every car safety prevention is good enough to satisfy each individual person, but with a variety of different cars and safety products it will fulfill everyone's needs, Internet filtering is no different arguing one product over the other is nonsense while for someone it may not be good but for others it's the best choice.

I don't agree that if someone isn't technical or if someone uses a whitelist or something close to that, that they can get around anyways. They are pretty much limited to having to use some other device or go somewhere else. Overall, that would definitely limit the amount of bad things a person could possibly see.

In regards to custom solutions, both GYE and TAG only offer custom solutions, as they both know that "filtering" is not one size fits all. I would've started the wiki but haven't done so for the same reason.

Though you do need to realize that certain solutions are better than others in certain areas, and that is what we may be discussing. K9 may be more secure, meshimer stricter, another filter could be "smarter" and etc.
