The policy has been amended since yesterday to allow a refund within 24-hours for bookings made less than 7 days out.
Hopefully this doesn't lead into cancelling the 5 day hold on award tickets.But I'm not holding my breath.
Don't know if the rep knew what she was talking, but I called AA to hold an award ticket (LY) and she told me I have to confirm it within 24 hours. It was within 7 days of departure.
