FYI, AA now longer allows 24 hour holds for flights departing within 24 hours:

No, it does not mean that. It means simply that instead of going lifnim meshuras hadin, they're going in line with the DoT regs.

The policy has been amended since yesterday to allow a refund within 24-hours for bookings made less than 7 days out.

Don't know if the rep knew what she was talking, but I called AA to hold an award ticket (LY) and she told me I have to confirm it within 24 hours. It was within 7 days of departure.

Always less than a 5 day hold T21 days before departure.
