Kentucky Bourbon Trail
« on: March 30, 2014, 03:15:24 AM »
Has anyone ever done the Kentucky Bourbon Trail?
I'm thinking about doing it after Pesach.
Wondering if it's worth it and enjoyable.

We went to Woodford Reserve last summer, which was great. I'm not a huge bourbon guy, so that was enough for me, plus I was with the whole family. I recall that Jim Beam and Maker's Mark also get great reviews if you want to add another one, but doing all 8 wouldn't be much fun for me. There's also one other one that gets good reviews on TripAdvisor that's not part of the "official" trail (which just means that they pay money to be part of the program). You should also look at a map to see where they are, as I recall that 4 are clustered in one area and 4 in a second region, and some are much closer to the main highway than others.

Looking to do this as well...
Is the bourbon trail the best/only one or are there other programs and what is approximate cost?

There are some distilleries that are not part of the trail.
Some that are part of the trail are free, and some have a small fee.
Woodford is really nice and cool

So only real cost is hotels and food...

Car, gas, entrance fee is maybe $8-12 in some of the distilleries

If I can go just for 1 day, should I fly into Louisville or Lexington?
Which distilleries are not to be missed?

Best tastings are at jim bean. Elijah craig brought us to a private tasting room where we had some pretty old bourbons (23yr IIRC)

ETA: All tours are basically the same. We went to most, by the end the speeches were coming out of our ears...

Are any better than the others?
Do you recommend I do woodford and town branch in Lexington, or Eva Williams , red roses, etc. in Louisville?

I did woodford and had a great experience, I don't think I would do more than one distillery (not a drinker)
Definitely do something horses

If you plan on doing the distilleries, keep in mind that the big ones are all booked up months in advance.

Not sure. I was told this by a friend that just returned from there. Maybe due to covid?

We just walked into Jack Daniels in Tennessee last week on Sunday, July 4, possibly the busiest day of the summer, literally 1 minute before the tour began, and we got in without any issues. Would be surprised to hear that you can't get into KY distilleries midweek for the rest of the summer.

Is buffalo trace kosher? I know there are a couple distilleries owned by Jews
