Don't worry, I have great credit. I just don't like signing up for credit cards just because they offer something.

yes but unless he goes bankrupt he cant really screw it up too bad
in other words too many credit crads just brings him too the limit of his capacity doesnt nessaraly give him a terrible score
I agree that having a bunch of cards doesnt kill his score, but if you dont pay your bills on time (miss a couple of payments here and there) and max out some cards (even $400 on the $500 limit card is considered maxed out) your credit will suffer even without anything to do with bankruptcy.
This is very common for younger people using credit. And many people do screw it up reall bad- I see it all the time.

because i will explain dont be so worried abt ruining your credit open a you are young natrualy your credit will get better even if you screw up now
so just get these cards and close them dont be so worried

AFAIK (please feel free to CMIIW), activity like opening and closing accounts doesn't stick around for too long on your credit file, probably not for longer than a year at most.

QFT. Dan said the same thing in one of his articles.

Im not sure what Dan said, but I look at credit reports all day long and heres how it goes:
-Any inquiry on your credit remains for 12 months- meaning I can see how many times you applied for any credit card, loan, mortgage, or any other time a financial institution ran your credit in the last 12 months. (If you run it yourself with myfico or similar, it does not show up).

-Any closed account even if only open for a month stays on your credit report for at least 5 years (maybe 7- I have to check) AFTER it is closed.

I am not saying that it affects your score if the account is closed- It doesnt really do much either way after 12 months, but it is still there. Unless you missed payments on the closed acocunt, then it still hurts you after 12 months.

Actually, inquiries stay on credit reports for 2-years, but after 12-months they no longer have a derogatory effect on the score.

It's 7 years from the "Last Activity Date".

The closed account will have a positive effect on your score even if it's closed more than 12 months ago. That's especially true when credit report is manually reviewed. Just as it would lower the score if there were late payments in the past. However, I agree that as it ages more and more the negative impact on the scores lessens.

Discover is notorious for turning down people even with excellent credit.

Their loss, not yours, as their cards generally stink.

What's wrong with maxing out if you always pay your bill on time?

Sell 'em both and buy a real GPS...the Nuvi 200 is a joke.

Because the credit card company reports to the credit bureau's at the end of each billing cycle how much you owe and how much you have available, this is regardless if you end up paying the whole bill on time. According to your credit report you have no available credit.
