here is my proposal

the DO participants should be voted in by DDF members, if everyone is selfish and votes for themselves there's no winner.
If everyone plays well, the winner will represent the ones who voted them in.

How to implement
Generate a report with members starting XXX post count. (those that don't post aren't helpful)
use ssi to create a custom page (to verify membership)
only members with xxx post count can vote (to prevent new registrations to vote [current members from creating new accounts to vote again])
a member could only vote once (other wise its pointless [Suggestion: maybe redeem HT for more votes])
there's a minimum vote count one needs to be the winner (to ensure global participation)

After all it's only a game and everyone understands that a game has winners and losers, for those that get insulted for losing a game this is good therapy

Exactly why I haven't repeated this DO.  I was left with a bunch of angry folks and a wallet over $1,000 lighter.

It's hard to quantify intangibles and a large EQP count doesn't equal the most helpful member.

Of course ddf has value for dd, but how to you judge a persons value for ddf? By post count? HT's are a simple way of making a distinction among members.

Anyway there are regular DO's for forum members. This was just a different type of thing, and after all the backlash I don't think Dan would do it again.

Let's try to clarify what's going on here. If Dan decided he wants to show his thanks to those that have directly helped him earn his living, it makes sense that only those with HTs get invited to a dinner. Why should someone with lots of posts get invited? (Why even care about quality of posts when quality posts don't equal more profit over substandard posts?) Why should someone who has made wikis get invited? If the dinner was for another reason, though, such as showing thanks to those that help keep this an active community (which indirectly equals profit), then sure, go ahead and invite people who have lots of wikis or lots of posts despite quality because even those with lots of posts of lower quality are a big part of this community.

Useful posts on DDF = more active users/traffic = more deals being posted on DDF = more content for DD to get deals from = profit.

B/c not every deal/perk/trick that pple post makes it to ddms. So if someone is contributing to his full strength and pple are gaining, just b/c there is no HT, why shouldn't he get credit for his help and contribution??? Just my 2 cents.
