It would be nice if a wiki or spreadsheet would go viral. It would keep prices in check in this town. Lets say, KRM or Gourmet Glatt come to town and are more expensive than their own prices in BP, we will protest that, since we will show them their BP Prices. So they will need to lower their prices, and then NPGS will need to match, and then we will have $ in our pockets.

Found this interesting.
Go compare the price of Gourmet Glatt in brooklyn and cedarhurst, its very noticably different.

Then again, you also need to take into account the cost of rent, delivery cost ( based on where the suppliers are located ) cost of labor, kashrus expenses based on local Vaad's, ect.

i think its hard to compare one neighborhood to another in general

perhaps, i dont know this.
it could also just me the flat out level of competition in brooklyn is crazier then anywhere else.

My uncle manages the paperific in flatbush, and as far as i know, most of the stuff is sold on crazy thin margins, with the repackaged items being the money makers.

It could just be they are cheaper in brooklyn because they have no choice.

Also, is KRM really trying to pull a profit, they started as a cheap place to help people out. I dont think they are running it for free, but when you have a large supermarket who is doing less then the standard industry markups, the other have to keep up whether they like it or not.

( as someone who lives in monsey, i long complain about the prices here. I make an occasional run into boro park for meat, and would do it more often if i had freezer space )

FYI the average supermarket gas a Profit Margin of 1%. They make money due to the sheer volume of sales.

As to your 2nd points - that's EXACTLY why we needed KRM in Lakewood and thats exactly how NPGS is keeping the prices up and allowing all other stores to be comfortable charging extra.
Unfortunately, NPGS bullied KRM into staying away form LKWD due to that fact that THEY claim to be the low cost (Non Profit :)  ) provider in Lakewood.

perhaps the focus should be on the "Hechsher required" items/Jewish brands, mostly?

Otherwise, it's easy to get certain groceries/basic foods at a Walmart or a Costco,
however, chicken, cheese, meat, CY dairy, bagels, cakes, donuts, ice cream, Kosher candy/chocolate
are all mainly available only in Heimishe shops...

I don't know about you, but when I do shopping, I don't run to the larger retail stores for all the things that I could get a little cheaper here or there. I go shopping, get everything on the list and pay. The hassle & gas makes it not worth it to me. So yes, I buy soap, oil, soda, candy, silver foil, vegetables, and more at my local grocery store.

True - but if comparing BP, KRM, and Lakewood, then shouldn't they focus on the Heimishe costs/profits?
Obviously people will go to Walmart if the shampoos would be $8 in Lakewood kosher groceries and only $2 in Walmart.
But, if the chicken is $10/lb in Lakewood, then there's nowhere else to go in the whole area to get chicken -- Can't get it at Walmart.....

I compared prices for cheese at Kosher West yesterday... The cheese packages (16oz) that are accepted by WIC was far more expensive, even when it's a bar and you have shred it yourself. I bought 2 x 8oz packages of shredded for much less then 1 x 16oz. bar or shredded package.

its also hard to compare produce from one store to another, and prices vary a lot based on the season, as well as the quality.
I find the best way to compare kosher supermarkets is the meat prices.
it seems in general to be a good indicator of the overall pricing of the store, based on my shopping experiences .
