I also noticed from the little Matza I ate that there were thicker ones than in the past, although there were thin ones, too.
Agreed. It was not all.

The ones I had were very thick. Just 6 matzos to a pound. In past years it was as many as 9-10. Very disappointing

The KJ matzah was awful.
But the P"T was excellent, BH.
I had the opposite experience. Star wasn't amazing but solid. (Obviously no comparison to Broadway)

Which kind did you get?
Our 1/2 whole wheat P"T from Blum was 10 per lb. Thin and crispy.

I didn't mind the crumbliness. If anything I enjoyed it. (To clarify, when I say crumbliness I mean when chewing it)

I know what you mean. That's normal for whole wheat and spelt Satmar matzos. Dan was warned about the KJ matzos. Not to compare to Bnai Yoel, Zali KJ, or Broadway.

No, not at all. Was for sure 10 matzas in the box. Just weren't all super thin like they usually are. Maybe you had chabura matzos or something and the group you were part of just didn't have good velgers.

Semi whole wheat is the way to go.

I also did not notice a difference in matzos per pound. I think the slightly thicker ones were just smaller in diameter.

Can you imagine the emptiness felt by people who eat machine matzos? All uniform. The same every year. What do they talk about?
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Oy where did I put my artscroll siddurim ;)

ETA I realized this can be misinterpreted in a somewhat negative way. But I'm referring to a previous post of Exgingi

This year's machine matza from the Mir's chaburah tasted much better than last year. However, something was weird about the baking and there were random holes in the middle. Some of them baked missing a third of the matza (my kids were fighting over the "baby matzos"). But much tastier, as said. (Last year's matza tasted like it was from two years ago. And don't ask how I know how that tastes.)

In other news, I somehow managed to get a kilo of Komemiyus right before Pesach. Average weight is 78 grams (though they are huge in diameter, for the record). It was Rash"i and I payed 225 shekel for it. Absolutely delicious and 80% sholeim.
I also bought a kilo of Rav Mordechai Gross's hand matza at Osher Ad for 80 shekel. I then sold it with the chometz. (I am saving it for Pesach Sheni.)

We had from 3 Satmar bakeries, all burned and broken, and so was everyone in shul complaining

Broadway was indeed bad this year with having shleimim, maybe a quarter of the shleimim box wasn't broken, that's where the thicker chaburah matzos comes in handy, but taste was awesome. Broadway is arguably the best tasting Matzo generally out there but this year it was heavenly good, perhaps the best I can remember and not burned at all.

For anyone looking for a Broadway imitation, B'nai Yoel in Monroe should do.
I tasted Bnei Yoel as well, didn't feel like eating paper but doesn't come really close.

PSA: Don't buy 20lbs of Matzah if you don't know what it looks like. My FIL usual bakery shut down so he went with a pretty well known bakery. I kid you not every piece was charcoal all around with about an inch of edible matzah in the middle.

It's not arguably, satmar broadway is normally the best tasting matzah, period. Sounds like it was a mixed bag this year though.

Intersection how some here talk how good PT matzah is. I tasted it this year and to me it was nothing to write home about. Tasted blah similar to Kerestir, EY matzah etc. Broadway is still the only Matzah I find tasty... Indeed it was hard to find whole matzahs. I used the PT mostly for לחם משנה....

For those who like well done Matzah.. Broadway has a new option called "נשרפים". Some matzahs are a bit too burnt but most of the box is extremely crispy! No need to rebake like we do with the regular.

Basically most of the time if you want it to be really crispy you need to rebake them. This is just for crispiness. In regards to taste, it's still the only Matzah I like...
