If the time of easyjet suits you better and price is the same no reason to go with air france. You loose out on a free drink, that's all

Didn't read all post here.

I would go with easyjet any time, except if luggage is needed, know that you will pay extra, on short hauls.

They allow check in very long before flights.

Ryanair should be avoided unless you really travel with little luggage, and read and follow all the fineprint.

No, but my understanding is that you shouldn't buy the ticket by them rather on a third party website, otherwise you pay for your luggage.

Wow booked already on their website didn't find any reliable 3rd party website offering the flight, however I understood from their website that 1 checked bag is free.

I just booked a Ryanair flight for someone (the closest in price was another $150) what unexpected fees should I expect?

I will report back on the experience.  ;)

there are no hidden fees, only extremely strict fees.  Look at the website for the exact luggage dimensions and other rules and you will be fine

Trick for getting cheaper tickets on easy jet: search a flight starting in UK (i. e. LGW-ORY) the add the flight (or flights) u really want then delete the flight starting from UK. Usually u can save a few bucks like this obviously provided ur not flying starting in UK anyway. The prices will be in GBP.
This trick not only didn't help,

it came out more expensive.

As promised, here is my report.

I flew these guys this morning from Manchester to Brussels.

My general impressions were that a) I did not see them "busting" people for having luggage that was a few inches oversized. I opted to pay a slightly lesser (but still quite steep) charge in advance to check my bags because they were oversized... but then I saw people getting on the plane with bags the same size as mine; b) waiting to check the bags was an extra half hour in line; c) the overhead bin size is rather large, at least on the plane I flew.

Bottom line: next time I would definitely just try to bring my bags on board and risk having to pay the higher fee.
