Why wouldn't they? Their community leaders, rebbis and charity organizers told them it's a sure thing. Many of these investors can't pay their bills now. Can't pay for their bar mitzvahs and weddings. They can't put a down payment on their dream home. These leaders misled their investors and robbed them of their future. They should not be able to walk around scott-free as if they did nothing wrong when so many are suffering. Shalom bayis has been destroyed. Families ripped apart. Yes, in theory this is Neil and Robert's scam but they kept it going. They kept asking for money. They kept collecting money. They have to step up and acknowledge wrong doing. They have to act like mentchen. Like the type of people they tell their congregants, community members and students etc to be.
Take responsibility. Take ownership.
Leaders, show humbleness and support for the investors you screwed over.
