I'm pretty sure they aren't more expensive than me.

Thanks Dan for the eye-opening voicemail. In the frum community, as long as there are gullible people willing to be conned by scam-artist “daas torah” “rabbis” who will do anything to make a quick buck for personal gain, then there will always be victims. The strong conviction of the woman on the voicemail only comes about because her internal apprehension for investing is assuaged by knowledge that a “daas torah rabbi” is involved, which is how these scam artists are packaging all this to investors. The “rabbi” involved is already known to be an extremely crooked individual (he collects for dubious charities and investments), and he joined this bandwagon of scammers, using his clout, to recruit more investors.

Why do you keep mentioning this "rabbi". It has nothing to do with anything. People joined for a get rich quick scheme, not because of daas torah!

People are so stupid. They have been "close to the end" for over 5 months!
There is a shul in Monsey that put together over a million dollars thinking they will get a 250% return in 3 weeks. Its now months later and they have not even received their principal back. All they got was a crappy tablet!

You are correct that this “deal” did not originate with this “rabbi”, he only joined a little later on, but he has become a major reason this scam continues to have legs, he recruits and alleviates the fears of current investors.

I feel that there will always be stupid balei batim, simple laymen, who are willing to con and be conned. However, I take tremendous umbrage when a so called “rabbi” gets involved. Now you have someone who’s supposed to protect doing the complete opposite, by peddling his position as affirmation to this investment’s authenticity. He should know better, he DOES know better, but it’s other’s people’s money he’s willing to play with. He sullied the hallowed position of “rabbi”, a title that is supposed to mean something, that is why I highlight his involvement.

Unfortunately a relative of mine is invested (I only found out after the fact), and as this still is ongoing, I am afraid of jeopardizing things. I know this is a flimsy excuse, and I wish I had the courage to plaster his name all over, but I am afraid to rock the boat.

The shul with the dumbest mispellelim. They tried to get me into this deal and i laughed at them. I told them i would rather invest in Enron!
I just feel bad for them that they were looking at the big quick return but not looking at the whole deal with eyes open. I told them that then and continue to tell them that between every aliya on shabbos!

Sungame (and its sub companies, Freevi, Energy TV, etc) lures investors by touting their proprietary 3D display technology, with the promise that a major tech company will imminently buy out for billions.

Exhibit 1:

Exhibit 2:

Exhibit 3:
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC9InMpSijopwesMtiiZewqA/videos

If you had a chance to get your hands on their tablet, go to the android menu, click 'about', and see that it is a model "A6100".

This model A6100 tablet is manufactured by a Chinese company, Truly Industrial Ltd, and can be custom ordered in quantities of 1,000 units under your personal brand name.
See here:
http://www.globalmarket.com/product-info/amazingd-3d-tablet-pc-2482462.html

This is exactly what Sungame did. They purport to be on the leading edge of technology, but it's simply a custom-logo-embossed door prize for investors, and more importantly, a means to show regulatory agencies that they are in a legitimate business of selling products (which they are technically, reselling another manufacturer's tech product, under your own branded name) . This is a scam, plain and simple.
