@chaikel, You should be ashamed of the hate that you spew!

I haven't seen such intense hatred in a long time.

What are you so bitter about?

Where are you getting your misinformation from?

And for the record, Lakewood has multiple support organizations for troubled youth.

Yes I know. I hear that from every person I meet in Lakewood. From all spectrums of yiddishkeit. The one thing they have in common is everyone says "Lakewood is so big, so diverse"
sounds like you haven't been here for a while. I suggest you at least come visit before you dismiss Lakewood as an awful place. Basically you don't know anything about the place!

+1, the guy is clueless about Lakewood, that's very obvious. It's pathetic!

Sorry guys, just stating facts. The fact that pretty much anyone who could even dream that there is a problem is from Lakewood, should speak volumes. There is a reason why it's currently the worst city in the world to raise children
I'm sorry to say but I right Now can read you out on the spot four places that are way worse then Lakewood.
I don't think its the right thing to bash any city in the world is not the city or people or chinuch there are so many factors out there.
From personal experience anyone who starts talking the way you are has no clue what he is saying.
Now I'm not coming to insult you just asking why do that? Where is your point learn the facts see the true situation .

what?!
You mean a centralized hang out joint to smoke up, hook up etc?
Ya you're right - better to just ignore/cast them away.
After all, if they're smoking up and hooking up we don't care about them anyway right?

I don't think I am qualified to know if making a club for OTD kids is good or bad. But one thing I do know, since the attitude changed in the frum community towards OTD kids, and the Love Mehalech became popular - the OTD problem has only gotten worse.
Is it because of the organized hangouts and the fact that they can do OTD and still have a family life? I don't know. But it definitely would make sense.

Now go ahead and kill me for not being open minded. Just please answer me this one thing - Has it gotten any better since the attitude changed or not?

I for one am undecided if we should go back to the "you're on your own" mehalech.

I would say that on an individual level it has gotten better while on a community level it is a continuing problem. (And yes that make sense.)

Yes you are pretty closed minded about this it seems. Or just not exposed to what is going on out there.

maybe if they'd know in the first place that they're going to lose they're loving family, and warm community, they'd never give OTD a thought in the first place?

I may be wrong - but is it such a crazy thought?

I was waiting for the close minded attacks.

Please respond with substance, not with immature close minded attacks.
How can i be close minded about a subject, that I wrote more than once that I may be wrong about? Close minded means sticking to one point of view no matter what. I practically begged in my post to be educated if I was wrong.

Please educate me - why isn't making it comfortable to go OTD, a likely cause to why OTD has spiraled out of control in the past decade?

And for the record, Lakewood has multiple support organizations for troubled youth.
Do you have any idea how many years, and what kind of monstrous efforts that took?
How many failed attempts there were?

And not because of lack of support from rabbanim, but because of the dearth of "askanim" that this town breeds. Everyone has to make his chakiros about every nareshkeit in the world, except emunah.

When the problem actually became too big to ignore, then all of a sudden everyone did what Lakewooders do best. Jump on the band waggon.

sounds like you haven't been here for a while. I suggest you at least come visit before you dismiss Lakewood as an awful place. Basically you don't know anything about the place!
Actually just last week had a DO here with 10 members, and I'm here till the end of the week

The event that @Chaikel hints to as his basis of lakewood bashing, seems to have to do with somone in lakewood being opposed to some kind of gathering place for OTD children.
Since the details of the proposed plan and its opposition are unknown (and probably fictitious,) why even discuss it.

The facts are that the Kollel and minyan have been operating for many years. With very minimal opposition. (any opposition was focused on location issues)

You obviously hang out with people (person) who hate this place. Maybe get around town a little more, this is a beautiful community, with beautiful people, stop listening to lashon hara.
