If done properly, one can and should actively transmit deep emuna without philosophical discussions. This in no way means avoiding the issue! If hashem is present in the home and lives of the parents, if sedernight is conducted properly, etc. kids will know everything they need to know.

If emuna is watered down to a few factoids, then there can be a discussion about addressing them vs avoiding them.

If, if and if!
At the end of the day the average person (not just kids anymore) doesn't have a certain level of emunah that was common to the average person 100 years ago.

True true.

But the solution is not a q&a!
Can a Q&a really keep a boy from going to a party...?

True true.

But the solution is not a q&a!
Why do you believe in God.
Why are you Jewish.

Q&A. Ask that in any 8th or even 12th grade class anywhere in the world, or even in a kollel in Lakewood. Let me know what the A's are

believe it or not as a teenager what brought me back on and to where I am right now is the q.s that ppl asked me when I traveled the world and me having to think about it and answer or hit me every time.
And BTW a question that I was asked by a rabbi once and really got me going was what would happen if you would find out one day you really aren't Jewish would you convert?

There are two issues with that 1) that itself that they don't know/understand the answers to those questions 2) the reason they don't know the answers to those questions. The latter being the larger issue, imho. Telling answers addresses the symptom not the disease(I.e. #1 not #2).

I spoke to a rebbi that asked that to his 8th grade class and only one kid said maybe the rest said no. :'( I'm talking about a decent school in Lakewood. Sad day.

well I hold that since most jews don't know the answer to why is it special to be Jewish and what does being the chosen nation actually mean there is no reason in the world why adults never mind kids would ever want to convert.

Its a scary thought if that's what Judaism of the next generation has come to.

First of all, the question should be: Do you believe in GD.? The answer will be a resounding YES, even if you don't count peer pressure.
The "why" is more of an academic exercise, not the very essence of Emuna. This is the fundamental difference!

The point is that if c"v these fundamental tenants of faith are weak, a quick q&a course won't really help. Emuna has to run much deeper then that.

If you asked your average Yankel in the Shtettle WHY he believes in G-D he'd have no clue, yet he believed...

Wonderful, but this just proves that the deep connection to yiddishkeit that you absorbed as a child was awakened by this question.
This is not about a new way of teaching emuna.

Fine, maybe the first question isn't that good, but the 2nd one is very telling.
And giving them the answer does far more than cure the symptom. If the answer is taught and not just parroted, then the kid will have proper emuna.

Saying things like "that's not going to stop kids from going to parties" is looking to cure the symptoms and not the disease.

And one thing is certain, if our kids aren't getting any form of emuna (which is quite apparent) then why come out against the tiny morsel they might just end up getting?

+1. That's why I was so surprised by the sign. I though we were done sticking our heads in the sand and hoping problems would just disappear.

Okay, I hoped. Guess this sign just dashed my hopes.
