What does outside recording do for you?
Doesn't help for police,  does it?
Helps if your in an accident or someone does something to your car when your away. If it has motion sensor.

looking to buy a birthday present, which one is best. no budget
Haven't installed them yet, but a friend got the same front one as me and loves It.very clear and smooth
Just got this one for my dash and this one for my back.  A bit pricey, but they have all the features.
I was considering this one for the front, but it doesn't have parking mode and has an external gps receiver.

You guys leave these in your car? Not worried it's tempting for thieves to bust a window?

That's one of the reason why some models are designed to be discreet.

Well, mine requires installation and programming. Its not the regular one that goes in to a USB. And most important, the black box that records everything is hidden in the car away from the actual dashcam.

Just got this one: http://www.amazon.com/MD657-360%C2%B0-Panoramic-Vehicle-G-Sensor/dp/B00HVMN610/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1436299694&sr=8-11&keywords=360+degree+dash+camera&pebp=1436299709759&perid=03268KY48W1B3V6ARTMA

And I know someone that had this in his car, and thieves broke in to his car, and after searching for some valuables recognized that there was a camera so they ripped it off, but they didn't know that its connected to a DVR and a couple of days later they were caught by the Police. So such a camera you leave in the car, and it records when your not driving either.

The downside, it just records forward, not inward. It can also only hold a max of 32gb sd card. But maybe it's worthwhile.
