Disputing a charge
« on: April 23, 2014, 04:35:37 PM »
Did a favor for someone and let him use my card for a few thousand $$$ but now it doesn't look like he is in a rush to pay, should I or can I dispute the charge if I have to go that direction?

You can't dispute that. Its not the banks fault..

If he used my card with my name the store shouldn't have let it through.

Tell him that you are in the process of starting a dispute. Should be enough.

It would not be honest to dispute the charge, especially that you let him swipe.

Curious - One store or multiple?  Online or B&M?

I wonder if the cc would be willing to follow through with the dispute without a police report.

What your saying whenever someone disputes a charge he needs a police report?

That's seriously what you're going with? That's your grounds for a dispute? Is that what you will tell the cc company?

So you're claiming he committed fraud.

Hmmmm... Ok.

And by giving him the card, you were an accessory.

This doesn't sound straight. You lent a guy your card and you got screwed. Period.I feel bad but you can't do much from the CC end of things.

Just because you have $#!+ for brains, that's not the merchant's fault. It's yours, and now you have to deal with it.

It's one thing if the merchant collaborated with this guy - for example, if this guy went to his friend's store and said "I got this guy's CC; swipe a few grand on it and gimme cash"; but here, the merchant is perfectly innocent. Don't forget, besides for clawing back the money from the merchant, the banks also slap him with fees, and "black marks" on his account. Why should HE have to suffer for YOUR indiscretion?! >:(

If you tell the CC company you gave him the card you will most likely lose the dispute. If a card is properly signed a merchant should not ask for an ID.
