Called first and the kindle rep didn't want to give me the price drop on the $19 kindle because I got already $50 off and they can't do two promotions etc. But then I chatted and asked for the price drop and was promptly refunded!

Actually on the chat they also transferred me to a kindle rep within the chat and I got refunded. So nothing against kindle reps!!

Gift card. Theoretically, the funds could have come from the 33% off $75 amex promo. In which case, $24+ tax -> $16 + tax. =)

From what I can tell, you guys are talking about getting a further $20 off by misleading reps into believing that you paid full price? So that, e.g. those who paid $19 for the Kindle are getting it for free?

I'm sorry, but it's one thing to be savvy or frugal, but this is borderline theft. We as Jews should be sensitive enough about our reputation, but this kind of public greed is just beyond.

I love Dan's site and I enthusiastically followed his link to get a Kindle for $19, something I never thought I'd buy. But I'm certainly not going to rely on an Amazon rep's ignorance or mistake to get it for free.

Again, am I missing something? Apologies if I misinterpreted what y'all are doing here.

From what I can tell I'm the one that got the ball rolling on this one.
I can't vouch for Adelbo, but I don't feel there's anything unethical about what I did. For me the power is in the wording.
Mine was simple and very straight forward.
The rep looked into the order and I would have to assume he saw that I used the $50 off promo, if he didn't say anything and went ahead with the price adjustment I don't feel the least bit guilty.

Thanks for the reply. I think the fact that you assumed he saw the $50 promo, but didn't volunteer that you'd already received it, tips the scales (IMHO).

If a cashier at a supermarket made a similar mistake, and you knew that once the mistake was found the money was likely to come out of that cashier's pocket, would you be comfortable proceeding? I'm going to guess not. So who's to say that once this error is found the rep won't be similarly punished?

Either way it strikes me as unethical to knowing try to get something you shouldn't and just rely on laziness/ignorance on the other end to catch you (or not).

When I spoke to the rep yesterday, he gave me a price adjustment knowing I already got the promo and had no problem refunding me. Not from assumption; he actually mentioned I had received the promo and still didn't hesitate to refund. Everything was straight forward. I only speak of my experience. This doesn't mean all of them were like that but my rep was.

This was my experience:
Me:Hi, I ordered the kindle fire hdx and see that the price has since dropped $30. When I ordered the kindle I was eligible for a $75 promotion but I am wondering if I can also get the adjustment to the new price?
Alok:I' have checked the order for the kindle device and see that promotional offer of $75 already applied to the order, hence no other promotion can be applied to this order. I'm sorry, I'm unable to match the price with the latest promotion for this kindle device.
