United Presidential Card Baggage
« on: March 21, 2012, 04:51:42 PM »
Can I add a child as an authorized user to the card to get them 2 free bags if I am not flying with them?

YMMV.
It won't be automatic and the odds of flashing the card to a TA working decreases because a kid isn't likely to have their own card.  Worth the shot though!

So I guess the chances of getting the child and his friend free luggage is not so likely, I assume even if bought on the same itinerary with the card.
I'm not used to paying $120 for luggage, dont usually have any. Southwest is looking better.

With the right agent you'll be fine, but there's a lot of confusion right now, so getting the right agent is probably 50/50.

-United MileagePlus Premier Silver and Star Alliance® Silver members get one checked bag free.
-MileagePlus Explorer and OnePass Plus primary Cardmembers get their first checked bag free. See united.com/chasebag for details.

So if you are star alliance silver and have the MileagePlus Explorer card does anyone know if you can get 2 free bags, or will they charge you for the second? If anyone knows from experience would appreciate the help. Thanks

I booked UA award travel, party of seven, from the same PP account.
They sent me two confirmation emails.
In one email, it implied that each traveler gets 2 bags each, for a total of 14:
Quote
Baggage allowance and charges for this itinerary.
Baggage fees are per traveller.
1st bag 0.00 USD
2nd bag 0.00 USD
Max wt / dim per piece 50.0lbs (23.0kg) - 62.0in (157.0cm)
The second email said implied that only two travelers gets 2 bags each, for a total of 9:
Quote
A Presidential PlusSM Card member and one companion are eligible for waiver of first and second standard checked bag service charges within specified size and weight limits. Must be a Presidential PlusSM Card member at time of check-in to qualify.
Which one is it?

The second one
Actually, when I checked in, the rep told me that each traveller was allowed to take 2 free bags each. :)

What's the latest rules on using the Presidential Plus card to get free baggage? I have a secondary cardholder going and ticket says no free bags. What do they say to the TA to get 1st bag free? I remember Dan once saying to reference a certain line from their manual, but can't find it in the forums.
Thanks for the help in advance.

-1 that was for a gate pass.
regarding the question it's a YMMV
Flashing the card can work
Just a small DP in the past I've had better luck flashing my united explorer card than when flashing the PP
Could be a coincidence but I did try many times.
