Not sure if this was posted anywhere, but I just called to change my companion and they did it over the phone instantly!
You used to have to do it by mail and send back in the companion pass card and wait for a new one. I guess they realized that no one ever asks for the card anyway.
So now it's so much easier to make changes. Still can change up to 3 times.
