Topic Wiki

This is the thread for all random/general questions about Southwest. The official airline code for Southwest is WN as SW was taken by Air Namibia, but many people on the forums refer to Southwest as SW since no one talks about Air Namibia ever.

For questions about any of the SW CC's, see here.
For questions about the SW Companion Pass, see here.
For questions about auto-checkin to SW flights, see here. (Follow the wiki to learn how to set it up.)

Southwest cancelled my award flight due to Juno - but the miles have not been placed back into the account. They are allowing rebooking at the same rates. I am going to fly on another airline. Do I need to cancel the reservation or will the points go back automatically if I don't rebook?

I am thinking that if I don't cancel I can use that lower points rate in case I need to fly them, i'm sure there will be more cancellations Wednesday and I can't stay any longer.
I remember when a coke was a nickel, and you could buy VRs in OD.

Im having trouble gauging the value of SWA Points.
What would you guys say is the determining factor for SWA on when to use pointa vs cash?

It depends on your need. I just got a one way FLL > BWI  8 hrs prior to flight and it was less than 6K points.

For some reason, that route always seems to have wanna get away fares, even on sold out flights hours before departure.

,some say [in general for any airline]. keep miles for when the flights are expensive. Being in yeshiva though I am able to book way in advance to avoid high prices lol. Unless last minute vacation. Do you guys agree with this?

I don't understand the question. Are you asking if it makes sense to use miles for expensive flights and to pay with money for cheap fares? Seems like a no-brainer.

Instant redeposit of the miles. You can choose whether to have the fees refunded or saved for another booking.
