Topic Wiki

This is the thread for all random/general questions about Southwest. The official airline code for Southwest is WN as SW was taken by Air Namibia, but many people on the forums refer to Southwest as SW since no one talks about Air Namibia ever.

For questions about any of the SW CC's, see here.
For questions about the SW Companion Pass, see here.
For questions about auto-checkin to SW flights, see here. (Follow the wiki to learn how to set it up.)

Needed to get to Florida only flight with miles was southwest only available flight through Saint Louis. Biggest mistake I ever made.......stuck here with at least 4 hour delay......

those are annoying. Once winter hits, it may get worse. We try to do FL direct on SW anytime we can -- even if it means getting up at 5am. Would prefer that over a 2+ hr stopover/delay.

my email didn't arrive yet. What are they charging for 60,000 pts? (and how much does a 60K points transfer cost?)

We just booked a few RT to FL for winter break at less than 15K ea., however, it's time to replenish SW if they're offering a 40% bonus.

It's cheaper to just manufacture the spend with Ink...

probably, but If i can get a total of 100K in a single 4-min. transaction without leaving my home/office, then that's worth something, too.....

The best you can do buying from them is 84,000 points for $1,650.

Seems a bit high (like $137 one way to FL), that's how I'd gauge it.
You're right, better to work on 5x ink with Amazon and Visa GCs.

Haven't flown SW in quite a while. Are there still any options out there for someone needing to check in on Shabbos?

No auto checkin. Have to get someone in Israel (for example) to checkin for you or pay for early bird.

I haven't found an auto-checkin that works reliably. Seems like the only options are:

  • $12.50 Early Bird Checkin
  • Amira L'akum
  • Relying on the LCD on Shabbos heter  ;)

yes, for Sunday morning flights, we've asked people in the UK or Australia to check us in.

4. Family boarding

Actually just found out this past motzai Shabbos that if you don't check in till you get to the airport then they don't give you a boarding pass till you get to the gate. Ended up in the high Cs

That's not true, there must have been some other reason why they didn't give you a boarding assignment.

Had a friend who had that this week as well. He showed up before and hour before the flight.

Family boarding has always been early enough to get us a row (3) to ourselves.

the 'high-C's isn't good for us -- we go with a few children and some of them need to sit with us.
By the time the 'high'-C's are boarding only approx 20 middle seats are open.  Add to that the 3 Matzah boxes that we bring for Pesach, (to avoid check-in, chometz, and boxes full of Shvarim),
then the overhead bins are all full by the the "C"s, turn, too. So we ask our UK friends, and we get in the mid-"A"s and sometimes are rewarded with 2 rows and our middle seat empty in between us.

If you travel with small children and do family boarding it doesn't matter what letter you given as you are called after the As.

If I book a southwest flight for Pesach and then get companion pass, will I be able to add the companion onto the ticket in February or March?
