Topic Wiki

This is the thread for all random/general questions about Southwest. The official airline code for Southwest is WN as SW was taken by Air Namibia, but many people on the forums refer to Southwest as SW since no one talks about Air Namibia ever.

For questions about any of the SW CC's, see here.
For questions about the SW Companion Pass, see here.
For questions about auto-checkin to SW flights, see here. (Follow the wiki to learn how to set it up.)

Ah so they don't give you back cash. Ohh well.
They've given me the option to refund to either refund as a credit or return to method of payment.
Memories last forever, make them while you can.

Can anyone help? I'm finding Southwest's site really clumsy.

Looking to book a family trip to anywhere in US with max 2.5 hr flight from EWR/LGA. I'm having a hard time finding direct flights. Only see ATL, MDW, and STL. Booking with points. I know they fly closer like Myrtle Beach, RI, Charlotte, Florida, but most are not nonstop.

That is southwest's business model. They have "plane stops" like bus stops.
I'm not who you think I am.

Any way to get around that?

Look at the route map and click list view, then filter nonstops only.

Just found out that my points expired back in April 2019... Any way I can save it with car rental receipt?

If I booked a flight for myself and my current companion, but I want to travel with someone else, will they give me a hard time transfering the reservation from the current companion to whom I actually want to travel with?
I can change the designation of my companion now and make a reservation for the new companion, but I'm not sure this trip will work out and I'm limited with how many times I can change who my companion is, so I'd rather hold off a bit until I know more details about the reserved trip and how likely it is to actually happen.

If you change your companion, it will cancel the companion flight. You can then instantly book the flight for your new companion, subject to availability. It's possible that your cancelled companion seat will get sold in the interim if it's a full flight, so I'd try to do it with a phone rep.

That's what I'm afraid of, but with a phone rep the transfer should happen immediately, no?

I don't think it's inatant. Fairly sure seats can be in any fare bucket so as long as you still see seats, I wouldn't be too concerned.

I recently forgot to cancel my flight 10 min prior to departure and therefore lost all travel funds. Is there anyway to get them back? I already reached out to customer relations and they would not help me. Tia

Unlikely. It's a clear policy.

I made a reservation yesterday for a flight on 1/9. Today they lowered the price. What's the best way to get the lower price?

Online change. If you booked within 24 hours it might make most sense to cancel it to get a refund in cash and then rebook.

Southwest seems to have dropped a few nonstop FLL-ISP routes in their new schedule. Is you check flights for the week of May 10 - 16, you'll find 3 nonstop flights, but then if you check the week of Jun 14 - 20, you'll only find one. Does Southwest add more flights even once their schedule has been released, or is that all there is? Maybe they're just reducing capacity during the hot summer months?

DW and I were delayed by 2.5 hours, which changed our 11pm arrival to 1:30am. With no prompting from us, we each received an e-mail <24 hours later apologizing for the delay with a LUV voucher but hers was $100 and mine was $50. We flew on individual PNR's. I called Southwest CS and they said they will send me an additional $50 voucher as a result of the 'confusion'. Just FYI, if you're in the same situation, ask other people you know on the plane what they received. You just might be surprised  ;D

I had a similar experience. My wife and I flew together on a flight where the WiFi wasn't working, and both complained later. She received a $50 LUV voucher and I got nothing. She has accrued over 125k miles (through CC bonuses of course), and I had nothing-- I was actually flying as her companion. I just chalked it up to the difference in status. Is this a similar situation? I find it hard to believe that they just assign compensation randomly.

Noticed that the prices are dropping on the Pesach flights I previously booked. Due to the SW no charge for change fees I have been cancelling and rebooking the flights and have saved 40% on one flight (cancelled and rebooked twice).
