Just recieved my closure letter. No reason given whatsoever. Just that they have the right to close it and they are exercising that right.

Not in my letter. Same vague "reasoning" given.

In their eyes they are mitigating risk by dropping the "high risk" accounts. In reality (at least as far as the people I know whom received a Citi A/A) they are dumping some great customers including some who spend an enormous amount on their CCs yet have all that backed up many times over with liquid in their bank accounts.

Basically people who make and spend money are being shut down. So now their customers will be low risk clients who don't make money. Sounds like a great business plan.

IMO most companies grow to a point where eventually they become a machine and many lose touch with their customer base. It's time for me to start building a relationship with some smaller banks who care about you. It's laughable when your citi "personal" banker hangs up on you when you are trying to figure out why they shut you down!

It's a computer algorithm in many cases. Doesn't need to make much sense in practical terms.

They closed down my accounts as well, and I did not have a citi checking account. Last app was in late November for the AA card, and I did buy 6k of VR. besides that I had regular spending. Never paid late, and I had cards with them for a few years and didn't use them for VR, AP etc.

So far from this thread it looks like the only way to trigger A/A is by doing everything legit...

Sarcasm aside, I actually pointed out AP might be a trigger. Seems that way with me.

If that was the case most people would NOT be having any issues. ;)

I disagree.

FYI on a different scale HSBC did a choke a hundreds of thousands accounts in October.
They may close the whole United States division of their bank.

If you follow Amex F/R, Chase A/A and this thread, you will find that this doesn't mean anybody is doing anything shady or illegitimate to run into issues. I know people who have gone through these who are highly successful, wealthy and established business owners. Triggers are not 100% known which is the purpose of this thread. When someone writes on this thread that they didn't use high utilization or shady purchases, I believe them.  I don't understand what gain they would have in lying on an anonymous forum. So rather then snide remarks, if you have nothing helpful to share why not just move on?

Why ? Is it because they don't wanna deal with US government ?
