Help With not going on last leg

Sorry if there is already a thread like this but I couldn't find it
Hi I would like to go to Israel next week and I found a flight with ita flight matrix NYC-TLV, TLV-NYC-ORD I don't want to go on the last flight from NYC-ORD Will I be able to take my bags off at NYC also is there any other downside for me not taking the last leg.

id rather do it myself on priceline or another site like that which do you think is best?

Just curious, why wouldn't you want to book through a real Travel agent that can help if anything goes wrong.
