How to get my british grandmother online?

My grandmother lives alone in England, has grandkids all over the world. Would love to set her up basic internet service and figure out what the simplest way for her to use email to get pix and news would be. (We're not a facebook family)
  • Smartphone? Can grandmothers learn to use an Iphone effectively?
  • Home internet? How much is the cheapest plan in that part of the world?
  • Is there such a thing as a tablet or very simple laptop that is user friendly for the elderly/technically ignorant?

I think it depends on the grandmother. My grandfather texts, emails, and can do a simple web search. My grandmother can barely make calls on her cell.

I know they have special computers with software made for the elderly. Ipads seem to work fairly easy as well for older folk IME.

Smartphone or tablet without home internet will use a ton of data.
Get her a laptop and a Gmail account.

TalkTalk have some pretty good plans. Generally, prices there are cheaper than in the US.

If you setup Wi-Fi, try a Wi-Fi photo frame

You email directly to the frame. She doesn't have to do anything, it automatically gets added to the slide show. That would only help you for photos though, no emails etc.

We got my grandmother an iPad and she got the hang of it real quick, we even set up whatsapp on it.
