Cheap Hostels in Tel Aviv? 1st Trip to Israel
« on: May 09, 2014, 03:43:28 PM »
I'm hoping to go to Israel for the first time this summer. Does anyone have any advice on where/how to book a cheap hostel? I've also heard that sometimes you can stay on a kibbutz for cheap, but I have no idea how that would work.

Ideally, I'd like to make Tel Aviv my home base for a week, tour around there, and take day trips to other cities. I'm concerned that the one or two hostels I've found are so far from the city center, that any money I save on lodging would be spent on transportation.

Can anyone recommend a place or booking site? Is there any chance of keeping it to under $25/night?

I'm open to staying in other towns instead, too, if there's a better idea.

Just a note - I'm female and will be traveling alone unless I make some new girl friends while I'm there, so safety is a bit of a concern.

Thanks in advance!!

I would stay away from hostels, especially if you're a girl travelling alone...

just sleep on the beach in a sleeping bag.

Or, or, bring a tent and put a protest sign on it, and pitch it in front of some random govt building

I second the advice to stay away from hostels. Not a good idea.
Under $25 a night will be tricky, but airbnb seems the way to go...you can probably get a room in an apt. for a reasonable price, it will also be safer and it's always a nice experience to meet locals (well, not always, but most of the time...)

As for staying in a kibbutz, many have guest houses but they're not cheap anymore. Additionally, most of the kibbutzim that have them are nowhere, you'll be stuck there if you don't have a car.

not the best idea for anyone. First of all, you'll waste a lot of time. Second, people don't stop as often as they used to. Third, as said above, not so safe, especially for a tourist who can't easily judge what's going on....should i continue?

Thanks for the tips. I think I'll save the hitchhiking for the movies, haha.

ETA: I've stayed in hostels before in Europe. Have some of you had bad hostel experiences in Israel or you just don't trust them in general?

I personally stayed at hostels in Europe and Israel and they seemed fine
