that's what happened to me. I was setting up a checking account and savings account, and they offered me a credit card. I didn't think it was necessary because I'm an AU on my parent's Freedom, but I said why not.

And the rest is history...

Citi forward

Half my school did that too. And very few got rejected only for identification reasons not for credit history reasons.

I don't recall mine, but my husband's (we were already married) was an Amex student card.  We cancelled it   :(  when he finished school because of the annual fee, no one takes Amex and we were able to get other cards by then.
(I still have cards the Citicard we got around then - 1988)

At least he can extend his "average account age" by opening some Amex cards today...

By now we have plenty of Amex cards.  The oldest is dated back to only 3/11, though.  (Not all are the same date.  ???  Aren't they all supposed to be 'member since...')
