Barclay Arrival+ (Arrival Plus) Card Chip+PIN
« on: May 14, 2014, 12:24:05 PM »
This card seems to be the updated version of the Arrival World Mastercard, but with Chip+PIN option, not just Chip+Signature. There are also some other benefits like extended travel redemption times (120 days now, up from 90) and more items that fall under travel.

Arrival+

Anyone apply yet?

How would the PIN function ever be used, if it's primarily Chip and Sig? The cashier would have to request it?

AFAIK, this will NOT help with the unmanned train kiosk problem in Europe.

In Europe frequently they do not ask for a signature when they "Swipe" (rather it's an insert, because it's a chip based system) and instead they request a pin. This can cause issues if you have say, a card with a chip (American) but no pin associated with it (like most European cards do). Therefore, the transaction cannot process.

Another advantage IMHO, is that it's much harder for others to steal ur cc info and successfully make fradulent charges :-X

The difference with this card is that it seems to have a PIN associated with the chip like most European cards.

Just got back from Europe with my PenFed card. I thought it would solve all my problems. It solved none.

It's the same nonsense: chip and sig priority, with chip and pin after. Not one single time did it bail me out. I never used a PIN. I was always asked for a sig. Kiosks refused to work with it entirely.

I think this is just a half-step, unfortunately.

is this a new card? will they issue it in addition to the old arrival and give another signup bonus?

Apparently the PIN feature on this card does work. http://thepointsguy.com/2014/05/using-the-arrival-plus-chip-pin-to-buy-train-tickets-at-cdg/
