AA 20,000 point bonus
« on: August 03, 2008, 12:25:22 PM »
Does anyone know what happens if you apply for the AA card from the old link that gave 20,000 points for the first purchase (the one that is still on the old ctownbochur page)? I don't spend enough to consistently churn the cards at $750 each and since I live in Israel the buying and returning shtick is not practical.

Anyone with knowledge please post.

Dan,

Am I correct in assumming that you are talking from experience?

My question really arises from the fact that the application that comes up from the old link is identical to the application for the newer deals (the $750 ones) and neither one has any indication as to what the reward is.

Thanks for the response.

In my experience direct links to any citi credit card application will always give the points under the terms for the offer at the time.

Does that work for other credit card companies- can I still get the 25k Amex reward points from the Business Gold card or $250 from the Chase Freedom?
Thanks

When you click on that link, it does NOT say 20,000 points for the first purchase as it USED to say.

I would assume that you will get NO points if you use that page to sign up.

Unless someone knows for sure that this is not the case (that you Will get points).

What he said was: "In my experience direct links to any citi credit card application will always give the points under the terms for the offer at the time."

But that offer does not mention ANY bonus points at this time.

I think he meant it will give any bonus points that the application offered at THAT time not at THIS time!!
Dan, would you care to clarify?
Thanks

I have quite a few old citi AA card direct links dating back a few years now.  None of them mention how many miles you get.  However they all have wound up giving me the exact amount of miles with the same spending conditions as I originally labeled them as giving.

Dan and anyone else with old links-

I am looking for old AA links that give the bonus after the first purchase. I have used the ones from ctownbochur several times but the consumer link there no longer pulls up an application. Please post any old links that you may have.

Thanks

i know what i am writing is deviating off subject. mayb it has to go to new thread. either way the title of this thread: "20,000 point bonus" fits my topic very nicely.
Citi has just sent me an offer (expires 06/15)(as a citi AA MC cardholder) to open a checking account with them. opening deposit is $1,000. For every month for the next 3 months, i make a direct deposit or 2 online bill payments, i will receive 10,000 AA miles. If i were to keep this thing up (with the direct payment or 2 online bill payments) for 9 months after the initial 3 months, they would give me another 10,000 miles. Now this is very easy. the customer service rep told me that the bill payments are a minimum of $1 and i could even pay to myself and not necissarily towards a bill. setup a recurring payment for 2 payments every month for the next 12 months and you are set with BANG 20,000 miles.
sounds great. here is my problem. i need to keep a balance of $6,000 in order not be charged the monthly fee. MONTHLY FEE: $9.50 (NY). i can not keep up that balance, so is it worth it to pay the monthly fee every month to get the bonus miles? mayb just to pay the fee for the first 3 months and get the first 10,000 miles, and then close the account.
(*in truth i dont have to keep up that balance of $6000. it is bit more difficult and i dont fully comprehend what the rep told me. basically, between the CC and the checking account has to be a total of $6000. so if i racked up a bill of $5000 on my CC, with buying coins, then i only need $1000 in my checking account in order to waive the monthly fee. but for me, this doesnt help because i pay up my bills in full every month, so even if i rack up a bill and avoid the fee i will have to work out something for the next month.)
looking to hear your input.....

why would you make yourself mishuga for 10k miles! Just open up a AA citi credit card or for that matter open a few, and make 25k points just like that for each card, with no annual fee the first year! (u just need to spend 750 on the card in 4 months)> Your deal doesnt sound like much of a deal!
