Need advice for game plan
« on: May 14, 2014, 05:27:14 PM »
I started a new assignment and will be traveling every other week between ATL and LGA.  I obviously want to maximize the opportunity and wanted to run my options past the wise and helpful DDFers to get your thoughts.

Flying:
My only direct options are SouthWest and Delta.   I think my best option is SW and to apply for their CCs to get status as quickly as possible.  I'll put all ticket purchases on my PRG.

Lounges
Opening a United Club Card will help me in LGA but in ATL, Delta appears to be the only lounge option.  I believe opening an Amex platinum will get me in to delta lounges.  Is that correct?

Hotel
I will be staying at a Hilton. I have unfortunately already received and canceled the Hilton Amex a couple of years ago, so I don't think I'm eligible for the bonus again with the new rules.  Should I just pay with SPG?

Car Service
I'll pay with PRG.

Would be grateful for your thoughts and suggestions. Thank you very much!!

I'd fly Delta. Their status is much more valuable and will have nice lounge. Amex plat will only get you into delta lounge if you're flying Delta.

If you'll use it extensively. Most people who don't have the luxury to travel are much better off with miles that can help them with one big trip

I would love to fly around with my wife but we both have busy lives and kids so I don't think it's practical.

Is it worth accumulating Delta miles and segments instead of Southwest?  I understand that they are less valuable. Although that may be the only way to get into the lounge in ATL.

Will you be using the miles? Either way honestly I think you are better off with Delta.

He can get that by signing up for the CC's, doesn't need to credit his miles.

Centurion Lounge is opening in LGA.
As much as I strongly dislike #deltasucks and #luv SWA. I think delta is the correct choice. While the benefit of companion pass is unparalleled,  the most  A-List will do for you is upgrade your boarding position.  With #deltasucks you can attain medallion status and receive business class upgrades, priority boarding etc.
As mentioned above you can get Companion Pass like I did through CC offers. If you do, take your wife, kids, family or friends...

I do t think flying rt twice a month will get me anywhere with status on delta. Especially with what's remaining of 2014.

DL is rolling over MQM's. I agree with the above posters, Medallion status will get you free Economy Plus seating, upgrades, lounge access etc..

a) Credit to Alaska so avoid any SkyPesos...
b) If you have an Amex Plat card you get Delta access in LGA and ATL and priority pass so you can access The Club at ATl (Concorse F) with much better food and booze
