SPG forgot to deduct points for award stay

I booked a room for a friend for a few nights at an SPG property using points. I was making use of a promo on my account which was giving the phone rep a hard time completing the booking, so she had to put in the booking with the hotel "manually". Thing is, she forgot to actually deduct the points from my account. I have a confirmation email from the hotel, but the points are still in the account (more than just a few days). Has this ever happened to anyone? What will happen at check-in??

Call the hotel to confirm the rooms are booked, and if it is then you should be fine.

But what will happen when he checks in? Won't the front desk see there were no points used?

This has happened in the past to a friend of mine. He booked a cat. 5 hotel , and the points never got deducted!!

Always a chance. Unlikely IMHO.

That's what I'm worried about though. If they decide to deduct the points at some point in the future, that promo would be expired by then and I wouldn't be able to use it for this stay
