Some updates, http://milepoint.com/forums/threads/merger-update-%E2%80%93-may-2011.11081/

Most notably, Chase CO CC holders will get waived luggage fees on United.

From an email sent out today,
United Mileage Plus will remain the name of the merged program.

More interestingly,
"As a Continental Airlines OnePass Plus Card member, you can still use your Credit Card as usual — there is nothing you need to do differently. You can continue to use your Card in 2012 to earn miles in your Mileage Plus account."

Does the CO card have any advantage over the UA card?

so the poster who was worried about having to shut his OPP card before the merge turns it to UMP blocking him from future bonuses, has nothing to worry about?

in the email from one pass saying that the name of the combined program will be mileage plus if says:

"The OnePass program will formally end on Dec. 31, 2011, followed by a wind-down period during the first quarter of 2012. Following the wind-down period, we will replace your OnePass reward miles with an equivalent grant of Mileage Plus reward miles. (underline mine).

see it doesn't say 1:1 ratio, any thoughts on that?

I wouldn't worry about that one bit. If it really worries you, link your Continental account to a United account and you can transfer miles between the accounts at a 1:1 ratio.

what i meant was perhaps they will give you more than 1 united mile for a CO mile, so maybe we should transfer our united miles to CO then wait for them to transfer them back with a premium.

Why would they do that? Wishful thinking IMHO.

With all the changes will onepass miles increase, decrease, or stay the same in value?
Also is there a reason to wait to link accounts?

If we found out the combined program won't practice starnet blocking, and Amex MR won't be transferable, I'd say the value will go up.

I can't think of a reason to wait with linking, though I've had no use for it yet so I haven't done it.

I dont really use united alot, but heard alot about the starnet blocking. Lets say, they will continue it with the combined programm, what is it like at the moment. Any recent positive or negative experiences booking star alliance flights with united miles? when do they block and when not?

Last year I was able to book a trip on ANA and CO, and United said it was not available. I sent a letter to corporate headquarters complaining that my 15 year old would have to travel alone due to starnet blocking and was given a waived change fee, which worked out in the end. But they were blocking Lufthansa, Swiss and Continental at that point-way in advance of the travel dates.
