If someone really wanted to transfer to SQ he could get a hold on some MR pretty easy....

If the news would be that SQ started releasing award inventory to *A partners that would get me nervous.

I might be wrong here, but the way I understand it (1) a lot of people - that are not in the game - just use the point currency they have, and (2) UR is cheaper to buy than MR. Does that make sense?

the cheapest point option was always limited but as there are more points on the market those tickets are probably going to be very hard to come by

Kris flyer is part of star alliance so u have UA for direct and lots of options with stopovers

Kris Flyer doesn't fly anywhere. It is the Mileage program of Singapore Air that is part of *Alliance. Hence you can redeem your Kris Flyer points on Star Alliance Partner flights. Though one of the best uses of these points is that SQ limits their Business/First award seats to other partners and therefore using their mileage program, Kris Flyer gives you more seat options for business/first.

For example, use them to fly JFK-FRA in Singapore First/Suite, then FRA-TLV on Lufthansa.

In total for this trip I burned 9,000 BA Avios for 2 tickets to NYC , 114,750 Singapore miles+ $430 in fuel surcharges for 2 seats on the Suites flight, 100,000 United miles for 2 seats for the connecting flight to Paris and the return flight in business, and 44,000 Hyatt points for 2 nights at the Park Hyatt Paris, which otherwise would have cost over $2,000.  You can transfer Ultimate Rewards points to BA, United, and Hyatt, and Membership Rewards or Starpoints to Singapore or BA.
