In which industry should someone be able to just defy instructions from the boss? He is not shutting down discussion about it, but ignoring it is not acceptable. How else can a company operate?
Agreed. If I miss an email from my boss I'm not expected to resign. Then again, I don't report to a crazy CEO of an Fortune 100 company.
Are they his direct reports? If not, he shouldn't be circumventing the hierarchy; it makes a company very inefficient.
I imagine he's referring to his direct reports.
ETA: Come to think of it, maybe the Tweet is saying something different. In the rare event where Musk (or any CEO for that case) breaks rank and stoops down to a manager to address what is ostensibly a business issue, that manager who doesn't directly report to the CEO (or interact with them regularly) should take such communication very seriously and address it in one of the three ways Musk suggests.
