I think the correct take is that they got lucky, just as easily they could’ve destroyed the ecosystem due to a lack of understanding of all the interconnected parts.

There are numerous examples of where species were brought into places and ended up wreaking havoc because they were not indigenous. But as Aygart said, this was different, because wolves were *re*introduced.

Here is a remastered version. INteresting how in the original version of the video they keep talking about deer and they show so many other species instead of deer.

There are numerous examples of where species were brought into places and ended up wreaking havoc because they were not indigenous. But as Aygart said, this was different, because wolves were *re*introduced.

They disappeared 70 years before, and were probably in small numbers for 10-20 years more. Given how quickly the ecosystem evolves, it is not the same ecosystem they disappeared from. And if the ecosystem was identical, wouldn’t they disappear just like they did the first time around?

I don't know enough of the science to know which is correct, but the article totally misrepresented the claims in the video. First, the video is about deer who absolutely eat from trees as you can see on many shrubs, not elk. The claim was not from a thinning population, but rather how the deer were more careful where they ate and therefore left some areas intact.

That’s one simple way to know the video is bunk. The studies talk about reducing the elk population, not deer. Also hard to argue with the scientists that conducted  the studies when they say this video is inaccurate.
