He learns the daf?

https://twitter.com/PeterBeinart/status/1602848487464439809?t=hOJOme56qXod_0Xev6rGww&s=19

😱😱😱😯😯😯

Isn't he Orthodox?

There are people who are completely secular and not shomer shabbos, kashrus, etc. who do the daf.

i have a friend who's brother was unfortunately dating a non-jewish girl for marriage but (fortunately?) finished shas at the same time.

What's your question?
Is it better for him to be doing as much mitzvos possible even when he is in the process of turning his back on the Jewish nation or is it better for him not to be fooling himself that he is still connected and doing the right things.

Which one to you feel is better for him?

Isn't there a maaseh with the Gra that he asked a maskil if he washed netilas yadayim, and explained that even though the maskil is oiver chamuros, there'll be a chesbon for kalois as well, so shouldn't we be celebrating every mitzvah that one DOES do?

What do my feelings have to do with it? Why are those the only two options? Are those two even accurate? I'm confused. Be that as it may, I'm almost certain that if there is some kind of an issue with someone completing shas, whatever that issue is, the solution almost certainly does not involve them stopping their learning.

whos judging? thats how this whole conversation got started. i was not sure.

thats the question. is it better for him to get less gehenim or to do more wrong but have a better chance of returning completely.

I'm confused.
me too.

Should be easy enough. If we calculate average gehenim time for someone of his upbringing, and graph it up to average gehenim time for people of differing upbringings, and then calculate the chances of return per daf of gemara learned, multiplied over the amount of dafim he completed, overlay that over gehenim time reduced by learning, and superimpose the graphs over each other. Then we find out if he helped any old ladies cross the street recently or if he uses the eruv....

TIL that gehenim is actually a hall of beancounters who need to determine exactly how much gehenim each departed soul needs to undergo...

If the guy's yetzer hora is on steroids but he would really want to be an ehrlicher yid and still enjoys and want to learn Toras Hashem then the above is true. If the the guy marrying a shiksa gives no damn for Torah and mitvos but still finishes shas for the shtick of it then it's better off without him learning.

Who/what is better off? The guy? The Eibishter? The Jewish people? The Torah? You?

Source?
I can look up for sources that tackle this nicely, but for starters;

Look at my source above and let me know if that works for you or you were looking for a more "loving/embracing/inclusive/no gehenom" mehalech you were wishing for.

Sorry that the loving/embracing/inclusive/no gehenom" mehalech seems to be a trigger for you.  :)

But no, your source doesn't work for what you said. In today's day and age, even something as bad as marrying out doesn't imply the person is doing it l'hachis. Usually it's based on ignorance. I don't see anything in the Gemara or the Maharsha that states or implies that a person learning Shas while not behaving in accordance with the Torah he is learning would be "better off" without it - even if he is "ending up in gehenom".

The gemara is not even talking about the person learning, it's talking about the teacher. I'm not suggesting to that we should seek out people about to marry out to teach them daf yomi.
