I was in KJ this week and indeed saw that it is 5 a day except Shabbos and YT. I found it rather odd that RH & Yom Kippur are also excepted - in Lubavitch we say as much Tehillim as possible those days.

What is the source for these 5 per day? Why not stick to the standard חלוקה לימי החודש? Why not on Shabbos and YT?

I'm sure in every place every yid says as much Tehillim possible on these days, which explains why there is no 5 kapitlach schedule running on those days.

Found a pretty similar minhag - The minhag in Preshburg implemented by רבי משולם איגרא זצ״ל. (They went even as far as not to say the 5 kapitlach even on days we don't say Tachanun, which the the C"S wasn't happy about but didn't dare to change)
