It's a local tax. Congress can't do anything about it.

The agreement between a landlord and tenant is also a 'local thing'.

While I don't agree with the language of the OP, I believe his frustration stems from people like Boylan focusing on making it easier to be poor instead of trying to lessen the prevalence of poverty.

It says "most" don't accept, and Amazon is not at all a great place to shop for groceries, especially if you are short on cash.

You're a smarter man than I for being able to figure that out from a comment which merely states that the solution to poverty is just getting a job. I think political discourse has broken us in many ways. This is another symptom, where we lose any sense of empathy or compassion out of some sort of "economic policy". Believing that SNAP gets abused, won't solve poverty, or whatever your political position is, doesn't necessitate being so callous and cavalier to people's hardships and suffering.

Here's another symptom:

An awful byproduct of the political discourse is that "triggering" others has become a celebrated midah for many. Even if facts don't care about your feelings, how we speak about those facts, or if we need to even bring them up, should absolutely care about other's feelings.

Look at the context of his comment. The first tweeter says he's heard that people may get shamed by using EBT cards, so we should just give them cash. The second tweeter responds, "Everything else about SNAP benefits is set up to shame and fail people. Everything."

I don't believe OP was trying to belittle the poor or oversimplify the issue by telling the poor to "just get a job." The comment was made in response to privileged liberals pontificating on the struggles of using a SNAP card (which, ironically, has actually made it easier than it has ever been to use those benefits). Again, I don't agree with the language used, but I don't believe there was ill will intended towards the less-fortunate.

Government programs aren’t charity!

Did I say they were? But aderabe, if you wouldn't say that to someone collecting charity, עאכו"כ you shouldn't say that to someone taking advantage of government programs. Especially ones for which eligibility requires work (albeit with many exceptions).

Again, you can argue welfare policy without saying that poverty is a result of people simply not willing to work.
