So I got an email this morning that my upgrade EWR-TLV for tomorrow has cleared  I have no idea why, there is just 3 seats left in J, I doubt PN class or even P class has opened up. It must be the Global Service desk did it manually!

Can you explain 2 things:
1) What level of UA status does the account have that booked the ticket?

2) How does upgrade work? Do you pay economy price/miles and then get this for free (if it clears) or does this get you into a higher class that you couldn't have booked because it was full at the time and now you're in but you have to pay more? Something else?

1K and GS members get 6 Globals anually.

You have to buy an economy ticket W class and higher and you apply the Global for free. I have a friend with GS status who sponsored it for me.

Plan B will be on top of the Globals I believe. However as in my case I cleared even there was no upgrade space, with plan B you'll never clear if there is no I/IN space. (I am talking about clearing BEFORE getting to the airport) also plan B is only on award tickets. GPUs only work on some paid tickets.

Be aware guys, with UA when a upgrade clears the KSML request will fall off. Now I am with no KSML because it is within the 24 hours

It's usually never a problem on the EWR-TLV route, there is ALWAYS an abundance of KSML's, but still try knocking doors off in case.

Knock off the KSML? There is no KSML request until you're upgraded so there was nothing to knock off!

If you don't clear until T-24 that's too bad for you. Order some NKS and consider yourself lucky.

If KSML ison the reservation, why doesn't the KSML transfer over when the upgrade clears?

I HUCAd already, it seems that its hard coded and within 24 you CAN'T request KSML.

How did you clear the upgrade w/o the space available? I hear global upgrades clear 95% as long as your   Not on a packed flight
