Switching seats in a different class mid flight
« on: May 25, 2014, 09:23:48 PM »
Am I allowed to switch seats with another passenger in a different class mid flight?
Looking at reserving on a tight flight and I will need to do one in business and one in economy, and would like to make a switch mid way.

Who in business would want to give up his seat to go to coach?  If you are in business and you wish to trade down seats, who wouldn't want to switch with you?  If this is a split family and you each want to be a bit in business, why is that a problem?  I obviously am missing something.

That's the case and I'm just wondering do airlines allow that or not.
Do you know for a fact that I won't have a problem?

We have had issues on US. They claimed it was a safety issue to allow someone to sit in a class other than their ticketed cabin.

Not sure why you think it would be an issue. I have certainly done this before a few times on UA.

Cause I have heard mixed experiences in the past.

My grandmother took my wife to Israel about 6 years ago, mid flight my wife started feeling not well so she switched seats with my grandmother which was in First, when one of the FA realized it they forced her to change back.

Note sure which airline that was.

Yes shouldn't be a problem (if your kids are not making to much noise ;)  http://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=21616.msg738447#msg738447  )

That could be a great reason for the switch of parents midflight!

I was just on LY from TLV business. Toward the end of the flight, a couple next to me switched the husband with a child. The FAs were very accommodating treating him with a full meal. (The child was well behaved!)

Did it on Delta to Tlv no issue at all and very accommodating.
FYI they are changing the TlV route in Oct to a 777.

prob not allowed to switch class seats during flight in case there is an accident/crash and one part is saved while the other one is not - it would get confusing to see the seat names and survivors names would not be accurate.

yeah this has got to be the reason. IMHO it makes sense from a business standpoint.
